It’s just the background and medical tests I didn’t do any water competence test
QUOTE=7A7;10210519]
Hi all
Has anyone done their water competence test yet?
I'm still waiting for background checks but thought I would ask to see what is involved so I can practice swimming now and be prepared for it.
Thanks

Oh that's great
The recruitment lady said there was a 50m swimming and 3minutes water treading competency test.
Good to know it doesn't need to be done...

I found an old post regarding swimming in another forum, not sure how accurate this is though...

'Im currently studying to be a pilot full time doing my multi rating and found Ground School for QF more intense.
Also make sure you can swim, two blokes from my intake got dropped because they couldn't swim fully clothed for 100m and tread water'

Haha yeah it’s been 15 days for me maybe they don’t have any training dates. I think it’s good we haven’t heard anything should mean we did good with our medical. I check like 1000 times hoping something would pop up.

Please pardon a mere male butting in. All the chit-chat reminds me of the progenitor of all airline cabin staff recruiting in Australia. She was 'Matron' Holyman, one of the family of Holymans who started the whole business in 1935 with humble beginnings linking Launie with Flinders Island. They became the ANA of Ansett/ANA. (A pity that that only a few today running their feet off have time for the history of the business, the Deborah Wardleys and the 'old boilers' that Reg famously called this brethren, you aspire to.)

The water testing will be completed through our ground school, they have a big pool and they get you to jump in fully closed with a life jacket on swim to the other side then back and then they will chuck a life raft in the pool and everyone hasn’t to climb in there. It’s a cool room they have like water sprinkle down from the ceiling and have storm noises to put you in a proper scenario. Once you climb in the life raft you’ll have to put cover up as a team together. (They shut the lifts off as well sometimes)

Thanks aviationgal for that insight, its a relieve hearing that.
I was worried they would be testing you swimming fully clothed and treading water for few minutes.
Time to hit the local pool and swim like there is no tomorrow!
