Emirates: I can't go to assessment day...and now?

Hello peeps! Got called by Emirates for an assessment day, but I will not be able to make it!! What should I do? Will I miss the opportunity forever? In the email they sent me, they told me just to confirm if I want to attend... should I suggest them another date from their list on the website in order for me to participate? Or would that sound pretentious!? And if I don't respond, will they get back to me another time?... Thanks!!

Emirates

I'd be doing whatever is humanly possible to get there. There are tens of thousands of applicants around the world lining up for this opportunity. Emirates wont wait for you - Tiger or Jetstar might, Emirates - NO.

You applied for the job, do you want it or not?

You say you 'can't make' the assessment day. I don't know your personal circumstances but, if it was me and I wanted a job with EK and they offered me this chance, it would take something like a death in the family to keep me away from the interview.

Just saying!

All is not well at Emirates

Beware of Emirates.

I am a fairly new pilot at Emirates and terms and conditions for pilots and cabin crew are going from bad to worse at an ever increasing rate.

The latest degradation to cabin crew terms and conditions is the removal of the right to self certify up to 2 days sickness. This is typical of the way Emirates does business. A small minority had been abusing the system but rather than deal with them individually, Emirates chooses to punish 16,000 cabin crew. Similar story for being able to book staff travel, obtain annual leave etc etc.

Please, do not fall into the trap of believing the advertising bs. Sure, you will travel the world. But 95% of layovers are for 24 hours and all you will feel like seeing is your bed at the airport hotel.

Emirates is not the employer it once was. It has a major retention and recruitment problem - due entirely to the way it mistreats its employees.

Stay away would be my well intentioned advice.

My response would be one of these two, depending on whether it is at all possible for you to make their offered day.

If you just cannot make the offered day, express your great interest in EK, explain briefly to them just how impossible it is for you to make the offered appointment, and indicate all of the other days listed on their website when you could be available.

If you can only make their offered day by moving heaven and earth, express your great interest in EK, explain briefly to them that their proposed appointment time is very difficult for you, but if no other times are available (such as those listed on their website), you will be there.

If EK is unable to provide you with any reasonable flexibility, be forewarned that this suggests they may not be the most sympathetic employer.

Thumbs down

"All cabin crew thinking of coming to EK. Please read and investigate the well written post above. The deal you had here before was pretty bad but now it just got a whole lot worse.
Do not come here. If you have any respect for your fellow CC, by not coming you stand a good chance of helping the current appallingly treated group. If they cant find new CC the conditions will have to be improved.
Still not convinced ? Ask yourself why many thousands are leaving ? So many that HR cant cope with them all . You have to make an appointment to resign !
Still not convinced ? Actually find and contact a grade 2 and ask them honestly what it is like.
You were warned !"
