Gatwick base
Just wondering if anyone here is in the same position as me and/or able to offer any advice...
I went to an Assessment Day in Luton back in February and was offered a job at the Gatwick base, to start training on 22nd June, which of course was great news.
I am currently a student in Manchester and will be looking to move down south for this job ideally around the second week of June. As a non-driver, can anybody suggest where would be a good place to look for a flatshare? As in, where can I get cheap and easy transport to Gatwick every day for work? Where could I afford to live? I think London is out of the question and I am a complete stranger to the rest of the Gatwick area. Where do the crew at Gatwick tend to live? Do most drive?
I did post in the Accommodation thread a while back but it seems pretty unresponsive.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can offer any suggestions, or any response from anyone in a similar position.

Near LGW, I think a lot of crew live in Crawley and Horley, but there are many, many crew who live in Brighton. I used to live in Brighton and was based at LGW, but was on long haul. I took the train, as I did not have a car. The train was about 20-30 minutes ride to LGW at that time. As far as quality of life, I would live in Brighton rather than by the airport, but I am not sure how your duties work; for example, if you have an early show, before the trains start going, Brighton would be tough.
Another idea (this is going back around 12 years..lol) would be Croydon. I used to know someone with BA's EuroGatwick at that time, who did not have a car, used the train, and managed it from Croydon, with early shows. Something to research more anyhow. Best of luck!

Thanks for the response, Crawley and Horley seem to be the names popping up the most on Google etc. However they seem pretty small; I like Manchester, I live right in the centre and I think I will miss living in the middle of everything. I think I will book viewings for Crawley and Horley and take a short contract on a room there, so I can see for myself what it's like there and what Brighton and other places would be like to live and to commute to work from. Thanks for your help :-)

Hi yall! Can anyone please help me, maybe you could, OrangeGirl? 
I live in Berlin for 3 years now (moved from ex USSR country) and really miss being a flight attendant, as it's something I really loved doing (used to work for national airline in my country for 2 years, got up to Y class purser)...
I flew with EJ a few times and decided for my self that I would enjoy working there, as crew seems to be very professional and nice. But I wonder if I am good enough for EJ, as I am a foreigner...
I have an unrestricted "Aufenhaltserlaubnis" in my foreign passport, hoping to get full "Staatsburgerschaft" within 2 years. I speak 3 languages (including English); my German is on the level of B2 (I have a TestDaF certificate with high grades). Is it good enough for EJ?
I believe I still need visa for UK...

I was offered the job with easyjet based at BRS but unfortunatly had to turn the offer down. I was then contacted by e mail offering me to be put into the holding pool so if any dates came up in the future they would contact me. However my coordinator informed me she cant see there being any dates in the near future, it would be more than likely the begining of next year. I presume they will contact when they start recruiting again which would be begining of next year before the summer period when the 6 month contracts run out.

First of all, being a foreigner is no problem whatsoever, there is many people from many cultural backrounds working for easyjet.
About your visa situation, your best bet is to email the recruitment team from easyjet to find out for sure. However, I believe you need the right to travel freely and unrestricted within the EU which of course includes the UK. If you need a visa for the UK you probably won't be able to work for any UK airline.
If you'll achieve German citizenship in two years time you certainly can apply. Until then, gain as much customer service experience as possible.
But once more, check your visa requirements and restrictions and then check with easyjet, then you will know for sure what your options are.

Easyjet Crew - could you answer a few questions please???
Hey there,
Just a few questions for any EasyJet crew out there if you wouldn't mind! (This is NOT a begging for ST thread btw!)
I currently work for shorthaul BA out of LHR and have been crew for a couple of years and as you may have seen there is a lot of things going on about our future especially with this new Mixed Fleet starting. I LOVE working for BA, and do enjoy working on my current fleet and my job BUT IMO I have to keep options open. EZY seem a good airline aswell, so:
1/I live in London, so the bases that would appeal to me would be in order LGW, LTN and maybe STN (Gatwick and Luton are easier for me though) Which of these bases is ''the'' place to be?
2/Salary - I do not expect anyone to put there salary on here for the whole world and their wife to see, but maybe if you could PM a general average for Main Crew and SCCM please? Preferably out of one of the above bases!
3/Scheduling/rostering - do you have a good working pattern and days off. Do you have an agreement or do you work to Scheme/CAP 371 (Not that I mind!)
4/Career progression - an important thing for me. Which of the above bases is the best for progression to SCCM specifically? Is the salary good for SCCM? I have heard you do ''fast track'' or direct entry SCCMs - I know you are not recruiting at the moment but what does that mean? Obviously I have well over 12 months experience so would be eligible.
5/Is Easy a good company to work for - as crew I realise no company is going to be perfect. Like I say I do love BA, but EZY does also seem a very forward, good airline. Is this image I have true? What are the other crew like?
I know some people will say ''you are mad'' and probably will call for the white coats! However I do have to keep my options open. BA has introduced a new Mixed Fleet which will be £11,000 plus £2.40 an hour, some are saying that will be less than other airlines like EZY! BA has stated we won't be forced onto this, I don't want to go into all this though but, I am just thinking of my future. Also with career progression it looks like either Mixed Fleet for me (and first of all as Main Crew on a training programme for a year!!) they say there will be oppurtunities for PSR on current contracts but we are all not too sure, so am just thinking what's it like at EZY!

LGW, it's the biggest base and the one which offers most contracts and career progression. STN will be the 'nicest' base of the lot as not so massive. LTN is good if you are interested in progressing into other areas of the business. However, if opportunities come up, you can apply from wherever you based if you are willing to consider LTN later.
2/Salary - I do not expect anyone to put there salary on here for the whole world and their wife to see, but maybe if you could PM a general average for Main Crew and SCCM please? Preferably out of one of the above bases!

New entrants are on random rosters now. For crew who's been there longer it's six days on, three days off, usually three earlies, three lates but this may vary. Newer crew has all sorts of rosters and I've seen both, quite harsh with never more than two days off together in a month and very nice eg every weekend off in a month, 4 days off together etc. Not sure about any agreements as I'm on 6 on, 3 off.

LGW!!! but if you are flexible you can apply for SCCM at any base as long as you speak the language and are willing to relocate. So for example, you can be based at LTN and apply for SCCM in LGW or vice versa.

I don't think we do that anymore. You need a permanent contract with ezy first. Again, for a permanent contract LGW is the best base. As soon as you have a permanent contract and have the 12 month experience you can apply. However, the newest process is, that SCCM will only be recruited once a year in July for the next summer season. You then may have to be seasonal (summer only) SCCM for a while. But, the whole process is just changing/new therefore, I don't know how this will work exactly from now on.

Yes. But far from perfect. I'm still here after 5 years or thereabouts. So are many others (and many who've been around much longer). So I guess it can't be that bad despite all the constant moaning going on lol. My answer is yes, after reflecting a bit on the question.

I really can't compare Ezy to BA as I never worked for BA. I have friends who used to work for ezy and are now BA and wouldn't come back, and some who would. I have friends who used to work for BA and now work for ezy and would never go back. I guess it's all about what suits you and your life style best. But yes, there are a good airline, all things considered.

That's what makes it or breaks it, and the crew is lovely. I've worked from quite a few bases and I always find that all bases have lovely crew and I call many of them my friends. LGW is probably the most difficult one on this one as the base is just so massive you barely ever fly with the same people. That's where the other bases STN and LTN are probably a bit nicer as you get to know other crew quicker. I don't think it really matters, ezy, BA, Ryanair, Emirates, etc, we are all crew and therefore we automatically have a lot in common. As everywhere, there is people you will get on with really well, and others you can take them or leave them, but either way, there's always some common ground!

I have just logged onto the easyjet careers website and have seen that they are recruiting for various bases. I filled in an application for for a based that wasnt advertised 2weeks ago, but know it is advertised. Does anyone know if i have to resubmit my application or if the recruitment team will automatically look at it?

Hi Everyone - Seeking some advice
I've just joined the site and have recently been on my assessment day at LGW for Easyjet. Interview went well and am just waiting on the final yes or no BUT being a slightly older person than a lot of the regular crew I am at a different stage in my life to start this career. I would very much like to hear from anyone else in a similar position (and in their 40's) particularly on how you manage a husband/wife/partner, a mortgage and other finiancial commitments that have been acrued over the years. Is it manangeable? Do you still have valuable time together inbetween schedules? And at the end of the day all concessions and commissions considered, is there really enough money to be earnt, to keep your head above water? I think I'm looking for some reassurance and maybe there are other people with the same questions?

hi, normal crew work on a 6 on 3 off pattern which usually means 3early shifts (starting at around 6am) and then 3 late shifts (starting around mid-day). as for the people being recruited at the moment there is a chance it may be random rota so that shift pattern isnt guaranteed.
I worked for easyjet last year and after the 6month probabtion period earned about £1300-£1500 per month including sector pay and commission. but the probation pay is slightly less to cover inital costs. hope this helps

cant apply again for 6 months - gutted
On top of recieving a rejection email from both Easyjet & BA (cant apply again for 12 months for BA at LGW) I cant apply to EJ for 6 Months, after which time I will be too old to become cabin crew
This is a very sad realisation for me and a very big deal as not only was I bullied out of staying in retail & not allowed by my family to become a pilot when I was younger in Ireland (I live in Manchester) I'm 40 & this has hit me very, hard, having already been pressured by people in my present and previous retail employers, friends, family and everyone else around me who tried to talk me out of it - perhaps I do not have the emotional stability or resilence required to become cabin crew, which was me lowering my sights from becoming a pilot (because I was too old) and now the same has happened again, so now I cant even do this
I've applied to both my old retail employer and my present retail employer for a job in/transfer to Ireland & am moving back to my family there (in accordance with thier wishes & instructions) because it is not meant for me to become cabin crew and anyway, I suspect that certain information passed between them, my family and the airlines had (and has/will always have) the effect of preventing me from leaving retail, where I have always been bullied and put down by other people all my life, where I have no choice but to allow this behaviour
Sadly this is the reality of life, that it is not my destiny to become cabin crew and in giving up on my dream & in letting go of it, that I can do so with some sort of diginity - I am totally gutted
