Hi tomcw25
Unfortunately can't help you much with your question since my assessment day is only in January '11. But I was hoping you may shed some light on what was interview like: questions they asked, group exercises, etc. Any information will be grately appreciated. And congratulations on getting the job

Got accepted to BA, but left my last job as cabin crew because of back/arthritis issues. Had surgery, fully recovered, still on arthritis preventative medication. Anyone know how strict the medical check ups will be? I'm perfectly fine to fly, but if they check with my doctor, or check the medication i'm on, they may think differently.

Hi Tom!
I had my assessment day for mixed fleet on the 26th of November and not heard anything back either... can't wait to start flying the flag though! Have you been crew before?

British Airways Mixed Fleet
I couldn't find another thread with regards to BA, so here goes.
Although it doesn't list it anywhere, does BA have a requirement similar to other airlines about distance/travelling time to airports, ie the 90 minute rule a lot of airlines have?
Is it assumed that people will expect to be able to drive or do other crew use public transport to work?
Thanks.

There is no specific rule but you need to be 90 mins away if doing a home standby.
Lots of crew use public transport but a lot drive cars. Public transport is really only a problem if you have a really early report when you might need to use a night bus if living in London or a taxi if elsewhere.
I know a lot of Mixed Fleet crew live on the South coast and other places further north of the country but because of the Mixed Fleet flying mix of shorthaul and longhaul, some are finding it hard and having to stay with friends or get a hotel sometimes.
I am sure you could cope fine if you lived about 2 hours away but any further and you might find it hard to commute because under Mixed Fleet rostering you sometimes only trigger one day off after a trip or you could have a run of shorthaul there and backs in a row.
Having said all that, I know that some of them are trying to commute but not sure how well they are getting on with it.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for the information.
I would imagine my only issue would be the financial implication of it all, most of my salary busted in taxis/hotels. I'm now considering whether it's worth it at all or not, would love to do the job, it's just I'm not sure the salary:expenses ratio really works out too well

and i am super excited
i have some questions and i would be thankful if you guys could help me with these:
- for those who got the green light with BA ,how long did you wait from application until you got the job?
- how long is the training?
- the USA visa i have heard we have to pay for it and BA doesnt is that true?
- dont you get paid during the training?
- do BA help with the accommodation or recommend anything regarding accommodation?
- is it harder for people outside UK getting this job in London?
- anyone can recommend me BA cabin crew blogs? i have tried to google but it is a jungle out there
- also i was wondering is BA among the best airlines in the world? or not so good?what is your opinion on this?

Adriana,
I don't work on the new Mixed Fleet but can answer some of your questions. I work on Eurofleet.
You get your basic pay during training.
Accommodation is not provided.
After their interviews some people hear straight away and some wait ages and it does not seem to make a difference if it is a yes or no, it seems to depend how busy BA recruitment is.
Some people get courses straight away and some wait ages again no reason why!
People who have to get foreign criminal records checks usually get given more time before their training course starts as the criminal records checks take longer.
BA take all people that have a right to work in the EU, nationality is not at all important except obviously you need to speak good English. Personality and the ability to show you put customer satisfaction first in every thing you do is the most important part of the interview process.
I have pm'd you with the name of a blog that has other new crew posting on and if you get in you will be able to find people on your course to share with.
Hope that is a help to you.

kdhurst380, I am going to be very honest with you - after having spoken to a number of my other colleagues on Mixed Fleet, my advice to you given your worries about finances is STAY AWAY FROM MIXED FLEET UNLESS YOU ARE APPLYING FOR CSM.
Those of us who are not lucky enough to be CSMs are REALLY struggling at the moment ... as I've mentioned before, I barely took home £1000 after a FULL month's flying.
We have gone from being one of the best paid cabin crew in the UK to one of the worst. I WISH I could be more positive right now, but unless the pay goes up (or we get promoted within the next few months to CSM - those of us that can apply), many people including myself will have no choice but to leave ... it really is that bad (financially). If you're just doing the job for pocket money, then obviously this advice does not apply (and even then, there are serious issues with rostering to be resolved).
Stay away from Mixed Fleet until it becomes established and some sort of pay increase is negotiated ... I am so sorry to sound negative, but the last few weeks have been very disappointing and tough, despite my enthusiasm for the actual job and a bunch of great crew.
Best of luck in any case.

I suggest you do some research on BA before your assessment (if you are successful). Our recruitment teams might be asking you similar questions!!
Good luck!

Gotcha, I don't earn more than that now and I struggle (My current method of transport to work is bicycle!) so cost of getting to LHR each day certainly outweighs that.
It seems that BA really are recruiting as many as possible on as bad conditions as possible, the ad said minimum £17k! what a con. It's a shame that someone as reputable as BA can be that misleading unless you dig deep into the T's & C's.
Think I'm going to get my pink licence sorted and head over to EZY at Gatwick.
Thanks so much for being honest! and I hope things get better for all you current Mixed Fleet guys and girls.

Does anyone actually know if BA notifies all candidates after their AD or only successful ones? It's just that mine was more than a week ago and I haven't heard anything from BA ever since. I remember they told us we would be notified within 5 working days. Can someone share their experiences. please?

Manorexic, I have't had a MF AD yet but I have been for LGW crew and Cargo interviews with BA. At both I was told it would be 5 days. I got the "no thanks" email for LGW 10 days later and a "yes" email for Cargo 12 days later. I think it really is random. I've heard from others on MF that some got a call offering the job after 1 day and others waited 2 weeks.
