VS I wasn't trying to disrespect...just jet lagged and at the end of my tether with LGW crisis at the moment. Everyone is trying to jump ship as quickly as possible!
Well when I joined we were paid training allowances and at LGW we always get paid for our training whether it is at our home base (i.e premium academy) or SEP at braincrank!
Plus the allowance increases when away from base i.e overnight allowances.
Once again this is what I was paid in 2006 - apologies VS but please let this one go by.

No worries, Pax Agent.

I know what you mean about people leaving LGW. I was there for years (albeit WW LGW) and I watched the base fade into a shadow of it's former self. We had 45 long haul routes there, then 25, then 9. We lost the 747 and the 767 - along with a lot of allowances.

Part of my current job is to deal with the aftermath of the LGW crisis. It's frustrating because it was so easily avoidable. That said, I would love to come back to LGW. Right now, they won't release me

Allowances

It all depends on how you bid as to how much money you receive in allowances. I've copied my total allowances from my December acheived allowances, which are:
BID PERIOD TOTALS: NON-MEAL: 841.55 MEALS: 1252.44 GRAND TOTAL: 2093.99

So total allowances for december were £2093.99 this is plus my Basic salary. As I bid for 3 day trips followed by 3 day trips I'm away alot and only seem to do 1 there and back a month, The least I've ever earnt is £1600.00 After tax including allowances the most I've taken home is £2400.00 and on average My salary is around £1900.00 per month. Hope this helps. By the way I'm Main crew at Eurofleet Heathrow.

I would say that probably most people reading your query simply don't know, or wouldn't want to venture an answer in case they are wrong.

My advice would be to call BA, or if you are using the new referencing website, call the hotline 01159 685 352. They would be the best ones to speak to.

You would think that a personal reference would do but it would be best to have this confirmed by the referencing company.

BA are recruiting for temporary cabin crew flying long haul at LHR. The contracts are for 11 months. Check out their website. You're probably better checking out individual airlines for recruitment details. Most of the UK based airlines seem to be recruiting now.

Hi Flower Duet

Can I clarify with you:

You are LGW based
You did SEP at LHR for a week
You received an away from base allowance of £320
You received no other allowances for the customer service training.

Sorry but this has kinda thrown me. Did you do AvMed at Hangar 6 and did you get an allownce for it?

Cheers

This is what I found on the BA website :

To be a minimum of 5ft 2in (1.575m) and a maximum height of 6ft 2in (1.86m) in height, with weight in proportion, such that the ability to perform all job functions is not hindered.
The ability to, whilst facing forward, walk and fit comfortably down the aisle, fit quickly through the overwing window exit, and to fit into a jump seat harness without modification including closure without a seatbelt extension

Allowances

Hi there ,
Im gatwick based and I got my basic pay and for our week and half.
which was Wed-friday and then monday-friday the allowances where to cover our meals at the hotel as we are not LHR Based crew.

So it was my basic wage plus £320.

Customer service is at hangar 6 and also AVMED and the only
SEP we do at hangar 6 is the aircraft visit 737

Thanks Flower Duet, that's what I thought. To summarise my understanding:

Someone based at LHR, who does ALL their training at Cranebank (LHR) will not be paid allowances as there is no need for them. They are not staying overnight anywhere and are not having to purchase meals from hotels, which is what allowances are fundamentally for.

If you are LGW based and do your SEP training at Cranebank, you will be given a hotel and allowances because it is away from base and you will have to in theory purchase your meals at the hotel - just like on a trip.

Sorry to sound pedantic and I'm open to correction but I think it's important to clarify this so people can have an awareness of the financial implications of training, that way they can budget in advance.

Thanks again, Flower Duet.

Unhappy References!!

This really does make me laugh....

Just had an email from BA saying that they are trying to get in touch with one of my references. The place where I worked (back in 2000) has been sold and the company no longer exists, so I provided them with my manager at the time´s personal contact details.
They sent me an email saying that he gave me a reference but he no longer works there, so I need to send them the telephone number of the company???? My ex-manager told me he clearly explained to them the company no longer exists.....so how on earth do I supply them with a contact telephone number.......???

..it gets better, they then say that I should chase up another reference as they dont speak english...Im sorry but whoever said it was an obligation to speak English in Spain???? Surely BA must understand that we dont all live and work in the UK and if they need references from other countries then find people that speak other languages to work in recruitment. My references will be in Spanish because guess what........this is Spain.

Is this how BA works??

Why do they need a reference for as far back as 2000?!?! I thought you only needed 5 years of references to get an ID Pass??

I started with that company in 2000 and left in 2006.

They only need 5 years but my start date at this place was more than 5 years ago.
