Warning: job offer scheme

WARNING: job offer scheme

There is a guy from Greece trying to offer a First Officer job on a Citation Excel based in Skavsta, Sweden: three years term, US$ 5,500 per month tax-free plus lots of benefits.
The employment offer is subject to a acceptable simulator check done in Athens, Greece but they want up front cash money for the type rating in the amount of US$ 9,870.
I received the employment offer via fax and those are the names involved:

Aker Navigation Company Ltd.
12 Place de la Madeleine
Paris, France

President - John Freeman

Aviation Department - Chief Pilot Capt. Mike Griffith

After verifying with the French and the Greek Embassy I could not found anything about this company and nobody in Skavsta, Sweden, knows about a company with Citation Excel. Of course mr. Freeman did not give me any phone number to call in Sweden or even the chief pilot.
Please, be advised of anything close to this kind of job offer because they surely do it in different ways changing names and places.

He tried a similar scam on me only my dream job was to be based in Monaco flying a Citation X. More benifits than you could shake a stick at including an apartment and a car. Too good to be true I thought and sadly I was right. Fortunately I only lost the cost of sending a couple of faxes. I have been contacted by a helicopter pilot who unfortunately lost a large amount of cash to the con artist. Beware if its too good to be true and you are required to pay in advance for anything, IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.
He seems to target his victims from adverts placed in well known flying mags which we all look forward to reading, hoping and praying there will be a job in the back for us.
Keep your guard up boys and girls.

More on John Freeman (the latest?)

Wish I’d read this last Wednesday. Here is the latest(?) John Freeman scam. He had been in contact with my boss for sometime about the prospect of a lucrative contract with a Citation when he asked if he could immediately supply a safety pilot to sit right hand on a ferry flight from Crete to Aarhus. Fees etc were agreed and commercial flights booked when he asked a small favour: could we bring $1000 which the owner would exchange for euros. Long story short, the next day I was left stranded in a taxi outside a bank in central Athens minus the money. This could have been the end of the story but it wasn’t. John F. then phoned to say there was no problem, go to the hotel and cash and ferry would happen tomorrow as planned; ‘don’t worry’. The Chief Pilot(Mike Griffiths) was already in Crete. Meanwhile, my boss checked out the call sign of the ferry plane (VP-BCS) turns out to be Lan Chile Airbus which John explained had been re-registered recently.

My question is why did he continue the scam with false assurances after he had the money? Was he working a parallel scam and could not disconnect his mobile?

I filed a police report the next morning when he no-showed at the hotel: he did phone to say he would be wiring the money back to my boss (again why does he elaborate like this?).

He was about 45, about 5’9”, Greek (obviously John Freeman not his real name) with dark curly hair and beard. His mobile phone was 00306976928447. He’s personable and very apologetic and has a stammer, which makes you sympathetic to him.

John Freeman approached my company to supply pilot's which is a frequent request we get for pilot's with FAA licenses. This time Freeman at short notice requested we send a ferry pilot to Athens which we did and have suffered loss on the airfares as a company. Luckily another pilot we were sending has been saved from the type rating scam.

I will be talking to a special branch officer on Monday and hopefully will be able to post a contact where you can give any information to the Police directly.

The only other information to the above we already have is a fax No 00302108259126.

If you can give any urgent information please contact me.

We want this person stopped.:ok:

Sorry it took time I have been busy away from base.

I have been contacted by a G1V pilot who was contacted by Freeman to ferry a G1V last week end so his scam is not confined to the Citation. Beware!

Any information or contact you have with John Freeman with a pronounced stutter please send info direct to the Police via the following email........

[email protected]

They are now trying to track this guy down.

Keep a good look out

There might be another guy or maybe its the same one, that tries following trick:
he´d call us up for a flight from Athens to Germany, 2 pax, tomorrow...and a please would you please bring 3000 euros with you, you´ll get the whole sum from the creditcard or send us a bill...or we go to the bank together and you´ll get it cash...

As all of the supplied creditcardnumbers were of stolen or not existent-cards, so we didn´t do the flight.

Another company did, they lost the money for the ferry flights, did a flight from Thessaloniki to Athens with the guy which then dissappeared with 3ooo Bucks they brought with them. The company that guy claimed he´d be working for is ALPHA TANKERS.

He tried that stunt several times and one time i was able to transfer him to the company that already lost its money - they confirmed it to be the same guy. German police knows the identity and far as I know they still try to get him arrested in Greece...

Why I think it could be the same guy : he had a profund knowledge of aviation, he´d perfectly knew the types of aeroplanes and so on...

Alpha Tankers? Saw that before, have a look:

(Quote from www.loh.se)

Flexjet Europe which I worked was closed down, while outsourcing. Tough luck for me and my collegues ! Several adds had been placed in Flight International by Flexjet, and one of the companies that responded was asking for a G-IV pilot. Pilots from Flexjet looking for a job had to take a better deal, so it was suited likewise by the scammer. This is what I received from my company (my comments in brackets [] ):

Just been contacted by a private company based in Rio de Janeiro [exotic, right ?] regarding 2 First Officer positions on a GIV. Type-rating preferred but not essential [meaning, come on suckers, take my bait !], they also prefer if you have an FAA licence, if not then a JAR licence is fine [= almost anything will do !].They prefer to have First Officers who are under 32 years old, but are flexible [= anyone will do !]. They pay for accommodation etc, and would consider pilots who had families [= pilots with or witout family, we will be equally happy to take your money ] etc. They employ on a 3 year contract and pay $6,200 per month (tax-free) [Ah, tax-free salary, especially for corporate pilots, really touch the emotional button hard. USD 6200 tax free for a GIV copilot ?]. They are a private company called Alpha Tankers Inc [= does not exist], and they operate as Alpha Aviation ltd.[= does not exist either] These are immediate vacancies [come on, suckers, we are ready to take your money NOW] so they want to move quickly [before they discover it is a scam]. I haven't been able to find out information on them from the Web etc[= does not exist], so I can't give you any other information regarding them.

Oh dear! over a year ago I posted a warning to fellow pruners about a scam involving work promises based on a Gulfstream 1v. 3 of our employees were promised work based in Finland but had to put up £3000 for type rating conversion costs. The fax looked very plausible and the French speaking contact obviously had a good knowledge of aviation. They even organised a bizjet to fly from Helsinki to collect them. This aircraft was charted by them and was never paid for. Alas after subsequent enquiry this man is known to Interpol and has many fake passports and scams from the past - you have been warned!!! Interesting notes on description of this criminal, I will pass the details on to them.
