1975 Cessna Citation 500

I hope i opened this topic in the right place.

I would like to ask about a 1975 Cessna Citation 500.

How much are they cost nowadays? Are they possible to sell?

As I seen in other sites , they cost between 115.000$ - 1.000.000$, but i dont know that are the prices right, or too much, i know nothing about jets,airplanes thats why am i asking you guys.

Because i saw a auction, where this jet cost much lower price than I mentioned above.

In the auction info, there are dates:
2007 when imported to the country,
until 2009, there were nothing
And in 2009 got a airworthiness until 2010 ( which means, it can fly if im right )

So thats sure the jet isnt flew since 2010. Are there would be big problems if the jet staying for 9 year?

In the auction they mention nothing about working / not working.

How much is the jet worth if it not working?

If you know nothing about airplanes think of it as an old exotic car just ten times more regulated and more expensive to maintain and operate. So it's 44(!) years old, hasn't flown nor be maintained in many years and you know very little about it's flight and maintenance history (log books) and how and where it has been operated and stored? Don't go near it.

Overall, it will be cheaper to buy something a bit newer with complete logs and records and a current airworthiness (review) certificate.

In any event: Don't trust advise from strangers on the internet. Get a professional to help you. It will cots you but it will be worth it.

The other thing to consider here is the mission profile.... i.e. what do you want to do with it? My guess (and that's all it is) is that you may steal the purchase price but would require so much more to actually get it airworthy and usable for any length of time.

There are several (newer) aircraft that will do the same or almost the same as that frame and cost less than that top end to purchase and much less to maintain.

old cessna - i am willing to bet money on significant corrosion damage.
If it was parked in EU for almost 10y, most likely outside a hangar...even more.

I would suggest that you talk to a maintenance company first. After nine years in the corner of a hangar (or worse) you can look forward to six months of maintenance and paperwork to catch up with all the undone sceduled mainteance and service bulletins. 3 ... 4 ... 500000 Euros easily. Then you will need ADS-B installed if you still want to fly it next year. Another 250.000 Euros maybe. If it can be installed at all. With type ratings and everything else that is requred for flying you will have spent a Million Euros before it first gets airborne. Even if you get the plane for free. There are better ways to spend money on planes!

So , some extra info from it, and why was i thought it would be a good deal :

The auction is listed 2 day ago, and the auction site which listed it, its 100% true, not fake.

The auction seller says It is not working,

The price:

It is listed for 1100$, ( The auction company estimated value for the plane is 3000$)

So if nobody bid then the minimum price is 1100$ to get it.

And thats why i was excited. 1100$ for a plane, it made me curious about this. You can get nothing for 1100$ in these days..

I looked up the auction, and there were pictures which I want to share with you( pictures below) This is the current condition of the airplane.

And yes, its been here since 2010(last flew), out of hangar i guess.

So it wouldnt even worth 1100$? Even if it not working, and Cessna made only 689 pieces from the Cessna 500 Citation I? Because i saw on ebay, there are pieces from the airplane which cost for example : Cockpit Window for 8000$

I guess i cant afford it to make it work again, since i dont know how much big the problem is , i wanted this deal as a investment, to get it and sell it in the same condition, or by parts.

If it worth 1100$, then i would look into it ( search for a airplane engineer who can look it etc.)

If you say i shouldnt get into it, then im quit from this oppurtunity

I know a guy who buys old planes from scrpyards (not 45 year old Citations but 20 year old Boeing 737s and A320s which can be had for the metal value!) and converts the nose sections to flight simulators. To a guy like him thie plane could be worth 1000$ maybe. But he still would have to cut the wings off, drain all harmful substances like ten year old jet fuel slush and rotten hydraulic liquid from it and dispose of them properly (which alone will cost a four figure sum) and truck it from Hungary to his workshop which will cost another 5000 Euros or so,

If you ask Pratt and Whitney about a pair of engines that were not operated for 10 years there will be only one reply: Immediate overhaul (unless they were preserved in an approved mannr). Depending on the amount of damage that can cost anything from 300.000 to 600.000 Euros. Per engine.

Don't think any further about this plane and rather let it be the problem of the owner...

NB: If the seats are still in good shape (and don't smell as one can expect from an aircraft that has been left to rot outside for a decade - the pictures do rather look like that) you could use them to set up a home cinema in your living room. They are more comfortable than cinema seats and will cost about the same... I don't see anything else that could be done with that plane.

If its in Hungary the best place for it would be the airport museum.

don't forget about unpaid airport fees that can come an issue once you become the legal owner of the frame. There must be a reason the airframe was stored for such a long time and wasn't sold off 10 years ago when it was worth (much?) more...

My advise: Forget about it...
