Lear 55(?) and spoilers (?)
 

In the interests of preserving anonymity I'll omit a few details...

We were following what I now know to be a Lear 55 out to the runway a few days back and questioned the fact that it looked like it had what looked spoilers deployed whilst holding short stationary prior to lining up...seems it was actually Ops Normal, as he demonstrated as he put power on to line up...and as ATC said in response to the explanation "we both just learned something"....

Can't even get Google to be my friend on this one, any of you fine folk able to give an idiots guide to Lears, spoilers, etc., so I'll look and sound more clued up next time :O

The Dash 8 has similar behaviour. When the spoiler mode switch is in ‘flight’, spoilers extend when the throttles are below a threshold and weight on wheels, and thus would behave as you observed the Lear doing.

Ah...that makes sense...as "he" moved away to position and wait we could see the spoilers occasionally cycling so I guess that was down to changing throttle position. Since we don't "mix" it with bizjets that much it was not something either of us on our flight deck had seen before.
