Need some assistance 2017
 
Hello Everyone,

My name is Caroline, I'm a commercial pilot based in North Jersey, near Hoboken.
I have my instrument and multi engine ratings. I use to fly often for Angel Flight.
I'm at 402 hours. My goal right now is to find a job as a pilot and eventually head
to the Airlines. My situation is a bit complicated, I don't have the funds to really
relocate nor obtain additional ratings (such as CFI) I do have the funds to drive to
nearby states to acquire time(if given the opportunity) for just a few weeks only.
I was wondering if any of you kind people know of opportunities at Teterboro airport
(KTEB) or other airports nearby. (TEB is an airport that won't let people walk into
their FBO's to give resumes unless invited to) Looking to be build hours/income/experience.
I am open to any guidance and advice. Thank you in advance for your time!

Hello Caroline.. Welcome to the toughest period of your career.. All you can do is keep doing what you're doing now.. Bang on every door, talk to as many people as you can, don't become disillusioned..sooner or later one of the doors will open..You've just got to want it badly enough..
Sorry I can't be more helpful.. just know that you're not alone out there.. most of us went through it.

Good advices so far, I would also suggest to get a part-time job, start saving money and get an FI rating as well.

Word of caution:
Handing out resumes at FBO's may get you the occasional right seat ride but be very cautious how you log this.
Getting rides in King Airs or Citations will not look good in your logbook.
Ask yourself how you can log the time without formal training in the airplane.

Example:
Benevolent me offers you a right seat in a Citation for a repositioning flight.
Coolest thing right?
Don't log it counting towards your total time. It's going to look silly.
Even though I am an MEI.
You can't just log one hour dual in any random airplane that you've received no formal ground training for and that you are not rated for.
Be very cautious about logging SIC in a single pilot certified aircraft.
Being low time a recruiter will dig through your logbook and disregard any fluff time.

Seriously you're better off practicing instrument approaches in a SE.
If you do get rides in aircraft then put them in the back of your logbook as 'evidence' rather then logging them on your regular pages.
If somebody asks you during an interview if you have any turbine or jet experience you can answer them truthfully that : 'formally no but such a date you've observed/assisted in such and such an airplane"

Hi Caroline,

B2N2 gives wise words of advice regarding logging and claiming flight time.
I would endorse the last sentence in particular: there is nothing wrong with 'recording' unofficial RHS time in your logbook as long as you don't claim those hours towards the issue of a license or rating.

I was in a similar situation in the late 1970s. An acquaintance who was a C500 single-pilot-qualified captain used to take me along in the RHS occasionally. Over a period of two years I recorded 70 hours. When it came time for an interview for a C550 co-pilot job, the Chief Pilot was very interested that I had this experience, even though we both knew that it was unofficial and didn't count towards anything license-wise. But his viewpoint was, "you sat in the RHS and watched the operation and listened to the radio while you flew on routes similar to the ones we fly. That's useful experience in my book whether it's logged or not". I got the job!
