EASA is typical of the EU bureaucracy !! You cannot call ice-cream ice cream unless its made from cream.

EASA was formed as a regulatory body i.e a mass of people churning out regulations for regulations sake or rather their own sakes as the vast money they are paid depends on them creating regulations.

I wonder if their own jobs were subject to the same oversight and time and expense in keeping their own jobs whether they would be so keen.

The only expense they know is the lavish restaurant and bars bills they claim back.

But this expensive monster has been created. Right back at the beginning EASA was almost closed down by the Commission for trying to reinvent the wheel. Shame they weren't aborted at birth as we are now paying for all that bureaucratic regulatory nonsense too late to close the gates

As you said....no guarantees. From an old news story about a crash after a very late go-around....

"On July 31, an East Coast Jets-operated Hawker 800 flying from Lehigh Valley (Pa.) International Airport crashed while on approach to its destination of Owatonna (Minn.) Airport, killing all six passengers and two crewmembers aboard the twinjet. Shortly after the accident, ARG/US designated East Coast Jets as “not rated,” which is its standard practice following an accident. Until that point, ARG/US gave East Coast Jets a Platinum safety rating, the highest of its ratings under its Charter Evaluation and Qualification (Cheq) service."
