Hello

Just had a hangar talk last time , if you are operating jet on private flights , you have standby att fail are you allowed to fly ?
MMEL or MEL doesn't tell you a word about it .

Thank you

If MMEL say nothing then it is AOG, because this is some kind emergency equipment. End of story.

As above if its not in the MEL its a no go.

And depending on the aircraft type you may find the power for the engine fire extinguisher discharge comes from the standby horizon battery, so would you really want to go.

CHR,

The Standby Attitude Indicator is an airworthiness item, i.e. it is required by the part 25 Type data certificate. It is not included in the MEL because it is required to meet the airworthiness certification and is covered by the Air Navigation Order of whatever registration you are operating on. No difference between Commercial Air Transport or Private Operations, it is basic law.

No decision, it is AOG - No Go or however you would like to put it.

Same for many other airworthiness things like stall warning strips on the wing leading edge. If they were needed for the certification then it is no go.

Stay safe

JAA TGL 26 MEL policy document Item 34-20 specifies that a Standby Attitude Indicator may be inoperative for day VMC operations only provided the commander's attitude indicator is operative for a single crew aircraft or both attitude indicators are operative on two crew aircraft. Rectification Interval - Cat B - 3 days.

As previously stated, this alleviation would have to be included in the approved MEL for the specific aircraft. If it is not then the Standby Attitude Indicator must be operative.
