Just heard the sad news about Matt.
As KK mentioned, Matt really was one of the best - a pleasure to have worked with him and an honour to have known him. TWJ |
Matt will be hugely missed,
Like so many others I've got his signature in my licence - great value and fun spending time with him. Rob |

May I add my condolences to Matt's family and friends, a true gent. I had the pleasure of flying with Matt on the 604/5 at Twinjet and TAG between 2008 and 2013. Great times, every time. We laughed and laughed, had a beer or two, and always got the job done. A great operator, colleague, and friend. This has come as a complete shock to us all, and I for one, will miss him dearly. Get out the cab!

My condolences to Matt's family and friends, he was a true gentleman, a great teacher, a pleasure to fly with and at the end of the day great fun to relax with. He will be truly missed.

I'm shocked!
I flew with Matt for three days back in 1993 on an Inflight HS125-700. I distinctly remember his patience when I broke most of the crockery during an "arrival" in Swansea. Condolences to his family. |
A really lovely guy to have known. Many happy and memorable nights spent in Nice when we bumped into each other down route. Current trip means I won't make his sending off, but I'm sure he would want us to enjoy a few beers while saying goodbye. Great to have known you Matt.

Sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of working with Matt many times between 2005 and 2013, not least when I went out to fix one of his many AOGs on the 604 and 605. What a lovely bloke. Will miss him

Just came across this post. I flew with Matt at Ford in 2004. What a gent and a wicked sense of humour. One of the best nights of my flying career still with Matt on a layover in Cologne. Goodbye my friend. Andy Banks Anyone tell me the circumstances of his death. He was the same age as me |
Flying West
I hope there's a place, way up in the sky, Where pilots can go, when they have to die- A place where a guy can go and buy a cold beer For a friend and comrade, whose memory is dear; A place where no doctor or lawyer can tread, Nor management type would ere be caught dead; Just a quaint little place, kinda dark and full of smoke, Where they like to sing loud, and love a good joke; The kind of place where a lady could go And feel safe and protected, by the men she would know. There must be a place where old pilots go, When their paining is finished, and their airspeed gets low, Where the whiskey is old, and the women are young, And the songs about flying and dying are sung, Where you'd see all the fellows who'd flown west before. And they'd call out your name, as you came through the door; Who would buy you a drink if your thirst should be bad, And relate to the others, "He was quite a good lad!" And then through the mist, you'd spot an old guy You had not seen for years, though he taught you how to fly. He'd nod his old head, and grin ear to ear, And say, "Welcome, my son, I'm pleased that you're here. "For this is the place where true flyers come, "When the journey is over, and the war has been won "They've come here to at last to be safe and alone From the government clerk and the management clone, "Politicians and lawyers, the Feds and the noise Where the hours are happy, and these good ol'boys "Can relax with a cool one, and a well-deserved rest; "This is Heaven, my son -- you've passed your last test!" Author: Capt. Michael J. Larkin Dedicated to: Capt. E. Hamilton Lee Rest in Peace Matt. |
Good old boy " You can do it"
