Scottish Air Ambulance (Gama)

Hi everyone,

I tried to post in the original thread but it was already closed.

I'd like to know if anything has changed in the B200 T&C's since 2006. Last thing you can read about the roster is "3 days/3 nights/2 days off". Sounds pretty rough honestly. Can anyone confirm if this is still the roster?

Do they hire DEC?

I do love two things more than anything else, Scotland and B200 :E

Thanks!:ok:

Does the Glasgow EC135 know you're cheating on her???
It's only a week or two since you said...

....the only one I really want, fly that yellow beauty....

SextanteUK 15th Nov 2014 21:31

OK let me rephrase it, I love 3 things instead of 2. Yellow B200, yellow EC135 and Scotland.

mad_jock 16th Nov 2014 07:22

yes they do hire DEC's onto the B200's unless they have changed policy.

OC Piztoff 30th Nov 2014 20:02

Yes, they do hire DECs.

However my advice would be to avoid this lot like the absolute plague, unless you are really really really desperate for a job.

If you're working in another job already, you are better off where you are. It doesn't matter what you're doing, you're better off where you are.

Hopefully you are speaking with direct insight and experience, otherwise you just lost a great opportunity to keep you mouth shut.

If you refer to the company as an entity and the T&Cs offered, then you might be right but experience tells me that the grass is always greener on the other side.
When it comes down to training, colleagues, quality of mx and working environment (AT BASE) then it's a different matter and it boils down of what you make of it, me thinks.

That, I am afraid, is hardly the case. In fact it is the main reason that pushes each of us to look for another job!

Well done for identifying yourself as a member of the "management" DK. I'll give you the respect you deserve.

I am, thanks for asking.

MIGHT?! haha!

I do, however, agree with your comment about colleagues. Great bunch of guys to work with. Shame we are ruled over by your colleagues in Farnborough. The DFO is a tyrant and his attitude towards employment law will one day land the company in serious hot water. He is, of course, only like that because of the pressure he's under from the three senior "managers" in Farnborough, who will of course be the first to disassociate themselves from his actions at next employment tribunal.

You couldn't fall farther from the truth son! :hmm:

However thanks for...

I'll be watching this space then, hopefully you won't mind keeping us informed.

Good luck

Oh lord how I love PPRuNe sometimes.

Smashing reading so far.

maxred 1st Dec 2014 18:36

Well let's stoke the fire a bit. I speak as an ex/potential customer and after my experiences, I would not give them my lawnmower to look after....

Obviously OC speaks from inside, I from the other side of the fence.

Getting a picture:rolleyes:

OC Piztoff 1st Dec 2014 18:46

Actually, yes, checking your past posts I see that you're asking questions about applying for Norweigen, Flybe etc etc and not getting very far. Good luck with the applications though anyway (I'm not being sarcastic there, I really do mean that).

Gama has a track record of scapegoating. Whether it's G-SYGA nearly smacking into a hillside or the repeated failure to get the a/c into maintenance in a timely fashion, senior managers are blaming the pilots or the poor lad sitting in the corner of the ops room in Farnborough.

Not a nice place to work, and although you do work (DIRECTLY) with some great people on the SAS contract, I stand by my comment that management are the most incompetent and tyrannical bunch of idiots out there.

Maxred, thanks for the insight as a potential/ex customer. Doesn't surprise me, and won't surprise any of my colleagues.

Oh dear, all over sudden I feel sad for the miserable life you lead, man.

You dig up old posts from the PPrune's dungeons and the best you can come up with is to ASS-U-ME that I am in a permanent struggle to find a job?
And all this after you had (already) ASS-U-ME-D that I am part of the management? REALLY? C'mon, Scotland ain't too bad, there must be something to cheer you up...when you are not working!

Otherwise you could (like your predecessors) pack up and leave. Surely you have noticed the constant turn-over of crews up North (yes I know, FOs are a dime a dozen, skippers are a different matter though) so regardless which seat you occupy, I am sure you won't have the same problems I had (have) with Norwegian, FlyBE, eJ etc... :E

Oh, btw...anytime there is an opportunity with the likes of the aforementioned operators, I feel almost compelled to give it my best shot. A "no thanks" is always granted especially if I do not apply, so why don't?

Re. you rant with the company, well good luck with your crusade. Experience tells me that this things almost always end in tears.

Best luck

DK ;)

OC Piztoff 2nd Dec 2014 19:33

Actually, mate, I'm assuming you work for Gama- but given the rose tinted specs that you see the company through I'm beginning to doubt it!

One thing we can agree on though:

Re. you rant with the company, well good luck with your crusade. Experience tells me that this things almost always end in tears
because anyone who sticks their head above the parapet gets shot. But I'm not ranting to the company, I gave that up a long time ago because nothing ever changes.

Eejit 20th May 2016 13:51

I see Gama are recruiting for Captains and FOs for both Glasgow and Aberdeen. Are they losing more pilots than normal?
Also I can't understand how the advert says that it is to work on a freelance basis but then goes on to say it is a salaried position? How can it be both?!

Anybody there, has the Ts&Cs improved? I'm guessing not if looking for that many crew!

Son of a Beech 24th May 2016 07:10

I have a friend at West Atlantic that says that they are also loosing pilots by the bucket to the mayor airlines. Think this is the main problem in the UK right now

CharlieLimaX-Ray 25th May 2016 01:00

What are their requirements for a slot on the B200 for the air ambulance contract?

What are they paying more importantly?

It's all on the Gama website, but it doesn't appear to be that good!

CharlieLimaX-Ray 25th May 2016 11:34

Thanks for that, webpage wasn't responding earlier today!

What do they use the B350 in Glasgow for aeromedical, charter or VIP?

FlyingApe 25th May 2016 23:16
