Head Set
 

Hi All,

Looking for some advice on a new set of headsets for my Hawker.

Currently using Bose A20 but find them a little bulky and overkill.

- David Clark Pro X
- Telex 850 ANR
- Bose with Uflymike (realise these are not TSO)

Any info would be good.

Telex 850 is excellent but I would look at the Telex Ascend. They've got almost all the bugs worked out and it has the benefit of doubling as a normal ANR music headset.

I use a Clarity Aloft headset in a piston twin and very happy with the performance. I imagine in a jet they would be ideal although for some, the thought of having something inserted in your ear would be a thumbs down. They have a TSO'd model as well.

This was thrashed out a year ago or so...

Bose with UflyMike gets my money. I've used all of them, and this is as good as it gets, and I can us it when airlining as well.

Bose with Uflymike is TSO'd as an additional cost option now. Not as standard. And I think you have to ship them the earphones.

It would get my vote as long as the guy in the right seat approves. It's a very intrusive setup for that guy, and precludes any chats with one ear off. I've flown with guys who use it and while we operate over the intercom, even just a chat before start or off intercom when someone else is plugged in is a real annoyance.

I haven't tried the DC pro x but am very keen to. I'm told its excellent. And if the build quality is along the lines of their standard GA headsets it will outlast the others put together.

Shame you don't like the A20. I love it.

I have used the Telex 850's for many years. Since they can out in fact. And I have been extremely happy with them. The best part is that they are powered by the avionics themselves and require no batteries.

I advise the ultimate choice in my opinion which is David Clark Pro X.

If you are flying louder jets or turboprops a noise cancelling may be important (650 USD), otherwise, and if you don't want to listent to the music via bluetooth, I would go for the ones without that (350 USD or something).


They are very light and come with David Clark's durability... far better done than Telex which we got before. And they look jetty unlike some other shells.

Regardless of the set you finally choose, please, please get Active Noise Reduction (ANR).

You only get issued ONE set of ears, and your hearing degrades directly due to the amount of noise that they are subjected to... I've seen a mid 50's pilots lose his medical due to loss of hearing, and plenty of guys who couldn't hold a conversation because they couldn't hear you...

Thanks for the advice. I think I will order a couple of DC's (ANR of course) and give them a go. I'll let you all know.

I bought a set of DCs and I am very happy with them. Lightweight, comfortable on long trips, ANR works great!

However, I found one drawback:

Our company operates a couple of CL 605 and 604, and they don't work in the right seat. There is a loud background noise as soon as you connect them. After I experienced that, I tried the headset on all our company airplane with the the same result.

On the left side they work great!

I purchased a pair of the David Clarks a couple of months ago and absolutely love them. The best headsets that I have owned. I have also used Telex headsets such as the 850 light weight and Sennheiser headsets.
The David Clarks are well built and comfortable and the noise canceling is the best I have experienced. I use them both in a Learjet 45 and a Gulfstream 650 so they are used anywhere from 1 hour duration to 12 hours or more. No problems with comfort or being used on the left or right side of the cockpit. Audio quality is excellent.
I would definitely recommend them. On the long trips it is nice to be able to use the Bluetooth feature and listen to music. As long as it is good music such as Jeff Beck or Pink Floyd etc! No country music allowed!

Is Taylor Swift still country these days?

I would listen to her music if she;
a) let me fly her plane; or
b) let me fly her

Believe it or not I have actually flown Taylor Swift and her entourage to an event. Not being a country fan I did not know who she was. In fact I assumed it was a guy!:eek:
Know better now.

Retired my Bose/ufly combo in favor of the DC's. Quite happy with my choice.

Anyone have problems with the DC ProX RH-seat in GLEX ??? (If they don't function in the CL604/604 there might be the same Bombardier issues described above...) - I need to know, before I order. thx

I, too, am a big fan of the Telex 850, on my third airline and third aircraft type with them.

+1 on the Telex 850.
