MNPS - HF!

morning all,

a quick question, how many hf systems are required to fly in MNPS airspace?
what is the definition of "short haul" ?
basically what i am asking is if i can fly a hawker 800a with 2 LRNS and 1 HF CYYT/CYYR - EGGW

thanks, imri

This is a good question.

Our authority (EASA land) requires us to carry, in addition to the HF, another mean of communication other than VHF, and the Satcom is accepted.
This for commercial operation.

Single HF is sufficient but you must have VHF as a back up so you can relay via other aircraft in the event HF falls over.

2 LRNS

Make sure that both LRNS have their own FMS control. Sure they do but 2 LRNS through 1 FMS is considered a single installation

2 separate fms, 2 cdu's

2 separate fms, 2 cdu's
This isn't considered a LRN, you must have dual INS/IRS or dual GPS.

2 gps talks to 2 fms

1 HF is sufficient for all NAT operations, however it must be working at the time of entry.
Being equipped with a working sat phone installation, together with the relevant numbers (care, some are inmarsat short codes, those won't work on iridium) is very helpful.
In case of HF failure please revert to satcom only in case of urgency, they don't really like to get called. Just for position reports relay them via an airliner on 123.45.
We're there somewhere, bored, happy to help you.
