UK Security and the 10 tonne rule.

Need some help.

Please could someone advise if Security screening is required on a flight over 10 tonne which is operated on a AOC. But the aircraft is Privately owned and only staff off the company are flying on the aircraft? The aircraft is above 10 tonnes. Is there any where on the DFT webbsite that mentions this. The flight is not a charter but is being operated commercially on a flight number.

We all have an opinion of this in our office and we all think diffrently. Just wanted something in black and white if it is out there.

Thanks for any help.

Hi NJTCF,

I think the document you want is http://http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2008:097:0072:0084:EN:PDF - and then also http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/...17:0017:EN:PDF

In summary, as part of any member state in the EU, there has to be a NASP in-line with Regulation (EC)no. 300/2008, but each member state can then have a derogation (which is the second link above) which is what I think is really of interest for you......if the flight is filed as a commercial flight, then above 10 tonnes MTOW, you will require screening.....if filed as a private flight (and genuinely a private flight), then the screening generally is not required. Note: screening is required on all aircraft (whether private or not) for MTOW's of over 45.5 tonnes, am guessing your below this ;).

Thanks first.officer for your reply.

The second link is very useful. And answer the question about outbound ambulance flights.

On the second link. Item 10 is the one relating to my above question. This flight is below 20 tonne but above 10 tonne. The people on board are staff of the company who owns the aircraft and are on business trip. But because they are flying commercially on a 3 letter C/s they need to have security screening.

Also depends if you wish your flight to depart from within a CP!
