Best Climb GA Aircraft

Hi All,

Which GA aircraft (2 or 4 seater) has the best climb rate?
Anyone can paste a link to some comparisons perhaps?

I'm considering share purchase of a small plane in the near future, and a good climb rate is one of the core requirements (i.e. exceeding 1000 fpm).

Thanks in advance.

Soloy conversion Cessna 206 MkII, remove two seats, put a good Garmin avionics setup and you can have a near perfect SUV with wings IMHO.

Lear 45XR - you can exceed 10000ft/min.

Read the question :-) He is asking about 2 or 4 seater aircraft. Probably the wrong forum. Better ask in the private flying one.

I would guess a 182 would be quite good or one of those 172 with CS prop and more power (Reims Rocket)

Anything with a turbine conversion of course but those are mostly 6-seaters.

A 200hp RV7 will climb more than twice as fast as a C182 :ok:

Failing that, MX2, Yak-52 and all these 2 seat aerobatic aircraft.

There must also be some some 4-seater business jets? Wikipedia says the Lear 23/24 seats 6 passengers? I find that difficult to believe. If you take 4 seats out, then that will be a pretty rapid 4-seat GA aircraft :E

Four pretty nice seats can be found in the MS-760.

Alternatively, for only 30k, you could fit this to a suitable airframe: English Electric Lightning P1B RAF Aircraft Rolls Royce Avon Mk209 Jet Engine | eBay :}

there's some kit aircraft, if it has to be a 4-seater: Lancair propjet does up to 7000 ft/min solo and 4000 gross

I believe this is their updated model: Lancair Evolution | Flying Magazine

If you have tail-dragger and turbine time Maule have a turbine version that is like a rocket! 2800fpm, while the largwer Lyc engine should give you 1650 initially.

I believe that the best climbing GA aircraft is called the "Turbine Toucan". A Pitts S2B with a PT-6...

PC6 with some motivation.

The Toucan video isn't that great, but with better than 1:1 power/weight, you can only imagine!

-If you buy (build) one, I really want a ride!!
