Citation M2

Just read an article about the new Citation M2.

Unless I'm missing something, isn't this just the recently discontinued CJ1 with a 'cool' new name?

Presume it will still be covered by the CE525 type?

Fokkerwokker 14th Oct 2011 21:12

Think it is as you say but with a few more bells & whistles

fleigle 15th Oct 2011 13:46

That article above is confused as there are two Cessna Bizjets announced;
1) is the M2 which is a warmed over CJ1, and
2) Is the Latitude, which is new and larger.

The M2 is a CJ1+ derivative, and is on the same type rating - it is a 525.

It does seem to have some nice upgrades though - new engines and winglets to give improved performance (400 knot cruise predicted) and slightly better range. Cabin is the same as the CJ1, MTOW is 10,700 pounds. Many interior redesign tweaks, which may or may not be an improvement. Biggest downside is that the cockpit is now Garmin Gx000 instead of Proline 21, but that is presumably the main reason they got the price down.

The Latitude is destined to be the 680A...apparently the same TR as the Sov, I was told by a Cessna tech rep.

Lets wait and see...

Had a brief debate in the office last week about what the Latitude would go into market competing with. With the possible exception of some of the kit Embraer are turning out, the general concensus of oppinion was "not much".

Seems a bit pointless really if they're still planning on pumping out the Sovereign, Ten and XLS. Surely they would have been better off trying to re-light the embers of the Columbus?

I'm not sure that IS a downside?

I've flown King Airs and CJ1s with Proline 21. I've also flown Garmin G1000 - most recently in a brand new Caravan with the synthetic vision option and I'm a HUGE fan.

In MY opinion the G1000 is a whole lot nicer to use than the Proline 21 and the 'M2' is getting an evolved version (G3000 rings a bell?) which I reckon will be an absolutely cracking bit of kit.

I agree - I much prefer Gx000 to Proline.

Never flown a Garmin kitted airplane, like the looks of it. BUT the new Garmin for the 'SOV light' and the Ten has to be Part 25 approved, which is, apparently, a different game than 23 certifications. It might be that some functions won´t work.

Anyhow, anythings better than the Honeywell crap I have to deal with every day right now. An EPIC pile of horse manure...

For interested parties: Phase 5.0 will not be introduced, but 5.1 or 5.2. Development phase has NOW been closed and certification is in progress. Q1 they (Cessna) say. They haven't said what year....

Cessna Citation M2

Hi guys,
I'm a college student of Aerospace Engineering, who writing to enquire about Cessna Citation M2 shock absorber. I'm writing a thesis about the shimmy and wheel tramp phenomenon of the nose wheel at touchdown. I need some information of shock absorber dimensions (area of the gas chamber, area of the oil chamber, area of the orifices, height of gas chamber) or only the shock absorber model. I would be very grateful if you would be so kind as to give me this information.

Thanks.
