Bad surprise in OEJN
I fly for an owner on a privately operated C525. We are a small operation and
therefore I have no crew tag, CMC or anything similar. Recently, we landed in OEJN and Jet Aviation demanded a crew certificate on arrival otherwise a fine of 10'000 riyal (around 2500 USD!!!) would be imposed. Pilot's licence was not accepted as "proof". Luckily, I had a copy of a CMC of my former company with me, where I left 2 years ago and they accepted it (btw, they would also have accepted an AOPA membership card...)... We continued to OEDF and OERK (fbo also jet aviation there), where no such demand was made. Any similar experiences around the globe? Cheers Cecco |
Security morons at work.
Paris Orly, roughly 2,5 years ago: They: Badge, Badge, Badge! I: no badge, but ATP plus Passport. They: no, badge! You airline, you need badge! I: no, Iīm not airline, Iīm coorperate pilot, we have no badge They.... This continued roughly 10 minutes until they agreed to call a supervisor. He had the courage to let us go. But not without saying that this would be the last time. Now I have a selfmade badge and everything is perfect. In Kazakhstan they regurlarly complain that there is no date of issue on it. But only in UASK. When I land in UATE I just need a visa. When I land in UAAA or UACC we as crew are not asked for our visa. Morons, as I said. It is high time that pilots globally go on strike about these issues. issue a licence with photo ID and make the morons accept it. Yes, I am a dreamer.... BTW, I tried to get an official crew card from the LBA, but this bunch of... issues them ONLY for commercial operators. Sometimes I get really agitated about these people, really I do... :( |
As far as I am aware there is no requirement to carry anything other than ones personal ID (passport/national ID card) and a licence to operate as a crew member on the aircraft.
In Nice recently my colleague produced his FAA licence upon request and the security muppet looked at both sides of it and asked him which of the two photos (Orville and Wilbur) was him! It's all a game - treat it as one and enjoy life. |
A lot of destinations in the Middle East require a Crew ID card......just part of the game

BTW, don't blame Jet Aviation as the security isn't controlled by them, this is also the reason why you will find differences between airports in the same country. However as I'm sure that Jet Aviation charged you a lot of money, it would be worth writing a letter of complaint to their GM stating that as a foreign operator using THEIR services, it was THEIR responsibility to advise you of visa issues and THE REQUIREMENT TO HOLD A CMC. Hello!
Try telling that to the German Airport security personnel. |
Crew ID in Germany???
Never had to show a crew ID in Germany or anywhere else in Europe; pilot's licence and ID would be sufficient. In African countries, they sometimes ask for crew ID but it's not an issue then because you are mostly accompanied by a handling agent.
@Mutt: Jet Aviation in OEJN will certainly get an e-mail by me. Particularly because the airport didn't have this CMC requirement in previous years. Cecco |
Only in Frankfurt have I been asked for a CMC.

In DUS today
Inbound was very easy.
Customs actually walked out to crew bus, to check passports or company ID card. Lets see the departure tomorrow... Jet Aviation Handling. Glf |
@Gulfstreamaviator
Donīt worry, Gulfstreamaviator. They are very relaxed in DUS and will let you through with a pilotīs licence and ID. For sure, they will not threaten you to impose a fine of 2500 USD if you donīt have a Crew ID...
