EGLF-TAG/Aviator Hotel?
Anyone used the new TAG/Farnborough-Aviator Hotel? Planning a quick RON from California next month. FA will be looking for outbound catering from them too. Any input is helpful.

I haven't stayed there, but other crews in my mob have and like it for short stays. The Village Inn was fine last year at the Farnborough Show. Both about 5 minutes from your plane.

It's a rather nice hotel, (overall design is great, except for the heavy corridors doors which are not optimum to use with luggage) but can be boring if you spend more than 2 nights I would say...
You can't open windows (except from the 4th floor rooms I believe) and it's diffucult to keep the room dark during the day. Still the best option for a short stay in FAB. As for the catering, never used the Aviator but plenty of choice around. 2 of I know of: Deluxe Executive Jet Catering DeliSky - Delicious VIP Jet Catering |
Spent a night there a couple of months ago and all of our crew liked it a lot.
Especially for being in England. :} |
FlyTCI
Does that mean they liked it because it was in England? Or what?
|
I write this from the village at FAB.
Both hotels fine. Village has decent health club/pool. Would say the Aviator brasserie is more up upmarket, and the breakfast beats the Village hands down. Aviator slightly nicer all round. But the village has its own pub and Starbucks. I like the vibe better. |
So that means you can have an average Starbucks coffee at the pool side in the British winter time.. Im excited already! Just kiddin'. :}
|
Aviator is good, less crowded and noisy than the Village Inn.
There is also a decent pub within very short walking distance for a beer or two. |
NuName, IMHO most of the hotels in the UK tend not to be up to to the same standards as elsewhere for an equivalent amount. And our company tend to put us up in rather nice hotels.
Aviator held higher standards than what we usually see in the UK. |
Aviator if the boss is paying, otherwise the Village, strongly suggest you avoid the Holiday Inn. We do our 6/12 month training in FSI, so have tried all 3.
Comparing the standards of a Holiday Inn USA versus Holiday Inn Farnborough, I have to agree with FlyTCI. Mutt |
Well as much as I agree that the UK is overpriced, I just stayed at the Holidy Inn, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, $149.99 for one night and it was not that good so I guess the UK has not cornered that market.

Well, you are talking about New Jersey after all. ;)

Good curry house in walking distance accross the road from The Aviator Hotel :-)
Enjoy!:ok: |
EGLF
Im Resident in and out of EGLF frequently couple of questions will you have a car? how long will you stay.
Aviator and the Village offer good location within 5 mins from airport, they are expensive but nothing is cheap in london expect to pay 150GBP upwards Some other Options are in Farnham or the SPA hotel near Bagshot approx 15 to 20 minutes away. Had a good deal their recently for 110 per night Other options go to London, regular train service from Farnborough Main to waterloo every 30 mins for 12.00 GBP. Fast train takes 30 mins slow train takes 45 mins. Emilys, Absoulute Taste offer great catering etc, DELUX is very expensive and should only be used if you have a huge credit card. |
I can't believe it....14 posts and nobody has recommended the Monkey Puzzle deluxe accommodation and fine dining establishment!
A bargain at about 50 quid a night and not really in walking distance of anywhere except TAG. The bar is a great place to socialise with all the hard working salt of the earth pilots unlucky enough to work for the bottom feeders of the corporate business :E |
Or the Travel Inn next to Tesco in Aldershot.
|
I'd do Farnham
If more than one night, try the Mercure Bush in Farnham. Farnham's gor grood pubs, eating from Brit, French, Italian, Thai & Chinese. Trains direct to London Waterloo just around the corner. Goodle Farnham Surrey.:ok:
|
We have stayed there a few times and enjoyed it. Food is good and there is a good pub down the street.... sure beats a long ride into town if you are just there for an evening!
|
Dont forget there is a very nice 'free' to enter aircraft museum five minutes walk from the Aviator hotel. The FAST museum is open every weekend 1000-1600; do drop in if you have time.
The FAST Museum - Farnborough Airsciences Trust Also a very nice curry house just across the street. |
There is always the Four Seasons Hotel in Dogmersfield too which is about 20 mins from the airport.
Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire: A Luxury Hotel in Hampshire, England I would imagine TAG will be able to get you a reasonable crew price. Great pub just down the road too 'The Queens Head'. For catering I would recommend Emilys, their unit is 20 mins away from the airport. They are reasonable pricewise and very helpful. Emily's Inflight Foodservice | Emily's Catering |
