Service

Not really on the theme of Yako's thread but I thought for a little "FYI" for others reading.

Personally having booked Saudi Flight Services recently for a client - I can tell you that commercially and operationally they are one of the most disorganised companies I've ever dealt with. Obviously it is early days and they are bedding in, but I would treat with caution if you are booking them.

I'm not suggesting not to use them, but they need continuous monitoring and double-checking for errors, otherwise things simply wouldn't happen !

For all you broker-bashers out there, this is part of our job to check things are arranged correctly; and this particular flight I refer to, would have gone to a total ball of chalk without our intervention ;)

Saudi Flight Services
If you actually succeeded in booking them I would be incredibly surprised as they don't charter to third parties.

Are you sure that you are talking about the same company ??

I have never heard of Saudi Flight Services, could this be about Saudi Arabian Airlines "Special Flight Services"?

jetopa 29th Oct 2010 11:43

SFS aka Special Flight Services aka 'Saudi Private Aviation'

They're all the same and belong to Saudi Arabian Airlines, based in JED. They operate a variety of jets including 6 Hawker 400XP (aka Beechjet 400a or Mitsubishi Diamond :yuk:), G IV, one single F900B and a few Falcon 7X of which they must have 3 by now.

Your absolute best resource of information there is 'Mutt' who's been there for the better half of his life - just look him up and 'PM' him. He's very helpful and knows practically everything about the company, the compound Saudia City and life in general in the Magic Kingdom.

In regard to working and living there you just have to be aware of the country you're going to live in, the people you're working for, your position as an expat, you social life elsewhere (are you still married or do you intend to file for a divorce anyway?), etc.. I'm not saying it's bad, you just should consider the facts before making an educated decision and not complain afterwards. As far as I know, SFS is still looking for people (and they always will). The expat-community there is very much alive and features people from all over the world.

Good luck!

... and have a look in the 'Middle East' forum further down. It's valuable!

I interviewed with them a few months ago. Biggest waste of time and money of which my 1000 ticket i have still yet to be reimbursed. Belal is a really, super nice guy, but he still has not reimbursed for my ticket. There were groups of 6 or 8 of us, it was a short tech quiz (very easy), then the interview, and the sim. Never made it past the interview. I have over 600 hours flying the Falcon 2000EASy as a TRI (same avionics as the 7X) and rated on 7 other bizjets. I should have been a shoe in. Well the guy that did the interview was a complete jerk.

Even Belal after the interview told me he did not like the way this guy was questioning me, and that he would quietly work on my application. You are supposed to get 6 days off in a row a month, but i get the feeling that doesnt always happen.

I flew all the way from Hong Kong, the sim was in the Hawker of which i have 1000 hours on type. And the reason i didnt get past the sim is this einstein decided he wanted to see some references before we continued. Oh and get this, 2 guys that interviewed didnt make it cause they were over 40. Apparently they dont hire past 40, one would have thought these brightsparks would have already known there date of birth! RIDICULOUS!!!!

Interviewed with them in Dubai. All three guys doing the interview was very friendly and seemed interested in what I had to offer. The written test was mostly part 91 and part 135 questions. I looked over the ATP written study book before I interviewed. I had all my paperwork available and a copy of all documentation with me that I handed to the HR guy. They seem to appreciate me being organized and giving them a copy of the documents.

Simulator was later the same day and we were given a profile and a few calls out. Sounded like CAE had them in different simulators depending on what was available that day. Straight forward simulator ride, no surprises. Went well and was offered a captain slot pending passing the medical. Was told to go to the Saudi office in Dubai for reimbursement of ticket expenses. No problem, fully reimbursed the next day.

A good advice to everyone intending to take a closer look at Special Flight in JED: do not pay anything upfront by yourself! You'll never see that money again. Say you're broke or whatever it takes to make them reserve a flight, hotel etc. (get written confirmation) for you. The company belongs to people with unlimited wealth, so don't worry about them.

Belal is a super nice man and honest to his bone, but he has no say and the Saudis don't respect him (Belal is not a Saudi).

Ya, if you are not Saudi, then you are just a bit above whale **** on the hierarchy.

Why didn't you do the same thing?
