Citation S2 AOC OPS

Had a conversation with someone wanting to work a Citation S2 in Europe.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I have a feeling that the S2 is not popular in Europe because it cannot do air taxi work for some reason or other.
Is that correct and if so why?

Used to fly the S2 on an AOC in Germany (until 2004-5ish). Said aircraft is now in Bromma / Sweden. The lads at the FBO could tell you who operates it. Think its the only S2 that is in Europe, but that could be wrong.

That airplane was particular unpopular with the crews because it neither heated or cooled well.
We hated the thing, the TKS system is a pain in the butt. (especially when several crew rotate on it and no regular use is employed...)

I ferried one from Florida to South Africa. 35 hrs flight time and managed Goose to Iceland in one easely. That is what I liked about it the range and its ability to climb at grosse straight up to FL390. TAS was quicker than the 2. It was like a 2 with 5 wings.

Another question is there any way I can fly this for the owner who I have flown before for his private use not any AOC use( If he goes that way) on a Maltese register? But on an FAA ATP?
I doubt it but I am told Maltese is slightly different and he has good connections there.

I flew the S2 D-CJJJ on a German AOC, this plane was Old but very good. The range was absolutely outstanding for a plane of this class, we flew 5:22 and landed with all the Jaa reserve from Kiev to Alicante. I agree with the colleague that says that the plane is a pain un the butt for the TKS anti Ice system, this fluid is generating a lot of corrosion.
Another problem we encountered was that Cessna when introduced this model on the productio had the bad idea to change the Type Name from C550 in S550, for this reaso they had to prin a different issue of the AFM, for the S550 they never produced the "Steep Approach" chapter and the result was that we had no way to operate from London City.
I personally was in love with this type.

It was like a 2 with 5
Actually it is a 2 with a 5 wing. Minus Boots/bleed air, plus TKS...slightly modified engines with a bit more punch and a max N1 of 106% instead of the 104% of the 2...

IŽd be surprised if you couldnŽt find a decent 5 for a good price instead of the S2. Liked the 5 way better than the S2 for its perfomance. But thats just my taste...

Not sure what you ask for, but IŽd just contct the Maltese Authority and ask them if theyŽd object a S2 private ops. If Malta is EASA complient (dunno), youŽd probably get a waiver for 6 or 12 months, then it got to be JAR ATP.

But this stuff is in constant change and I had different answer on the subject from the same authority within a few months. I wouldnŽt bet on it.

A limited waiver was what I would hope for. I was told a waiver was still possible on Maltese reg ?

Reg has not been determined yet so could still go N or IOM but Maltese if they decide to work it. That part would not include me.

Has to be this particular S2 for deal reasons but agree with you the 5 is far better.

Loved the Ferry S2 I took to South Africa
