Whats next i the Cessna CJ Series

Ive seen some speculation around the traps as to what will the CJ5 be when cessna decide to do it.

They already have an exemption for single pilot ops above 12,500 lbs. How much higher in weight an performance can they go before the FAA says no to SP ops.

Asan asside issue, are there any plans to kill off the older model lines. Seems daft to have two jets identical in size to each other. The CJ blits the older ones in performance.

Slightly more wing sweep.

Winglets.

Bigger engines.

Thrust reversers.

APU.

Smaller cockpit windows.

Single point refueling.

External lav servicing.

Better landing lights.

Airshow.

There you go Cessna, done your research for you.

Can I have one as a thankyou, please, please???

No you can't. You've just described an XLS with winglets! :E

The CJ4 has got the 680 Wing, its very good. It'll do 0.8 and Ive seen Vrefs as low as 92knts, no slats, no fences.

On my 680 initial I was lucky to have the Aero Chief in Waiting of cessna on my groundschool, they were very pleased with the wing and planned to use on a number of projects.

Theres no gains to be had with winglets on that wing, its efficient enough so that any gains made would be lost with the additional weight

Wish they would put the Columbus empannage on the Sov wing. We need the short field perf and lack the space...

Just came back from Kazaksthan. 6 hrs in that tiny cockpit is a pain.

CJ5? Do they need another one? I guess they have the whole range up to the Sov now and are actually lacking the big ship the Columbus would have been.

OTOH if thy put a nice nose on the CJ4 (instead of the oldstyle 500 nose) it would look better. [just look at the XLS+, how much better it looks with the Sov style nose instead of the 650 thingie of the XL and XLS)

What's next in the CJ series?

Not much, IMO - there's not a lot more room for that fuselage to grow in length/weight before the FAA would start requiring a second pilot, and besides, Cessna has the light jet market on lockdown.

I'd expect Fat-tation (Columbus) and a new airframe mating the Excel fuselage to a Sovereign wing well before another light jet.

I think the next light jet will be a stretched mustang.......

I think the next light jet will be a stretched mustang.......
Which would almost certainly replace the CJ1+.
