1992 Cessna Caravan on Wipaire 8000 Straight Floats

Hi ,

Does anyone know where I can find a 1992 Cessna Caravan on Wipaire 8000 Straight Floats or similar ? Looking for a wet lease? Looking to bring it to ireland. This will be tricky i think!

Any leads appreciated and ofcourse a good will gesture should it happen

Thanks

Airy Fairy, your right it is tricky! If you feel like speaking to the people who have done this already (operator in Scotland springs to mind!) or the UK CAA directly they'll tell you what need's to be looked at specifically.
Generally from an airframe point of view, it's gotta be a stock standard with no off the shelf modifications, unless they're backed up with JAR/EASA approved STC's.
Could I ask why specifically a 92' model? The "Price" I assume makes it a reasonable choice at the moment??
Sound's like a very interesting project and I wish you the best of luck with this.
Is it for private or commercial use?
Would you be looking at this one per chance, at about 1 million Euro and change... http://www.erikssonaviation.com/pdf/...mphib-1992.pdf
Do you need someone to fly it?....

hi airy fairy,

if were you , would not close down on just a 1992 model..

check the market, they are all excellent planes.., year built is of secondary importance compared to total hours and history..

take any plane through a thorough pre-buy inspection at a good shop, including but not limited to a Hot Section for any engine that has more than 500 hours since new or overhaul

just one note, makes sense to get a plane with the -114A 675 HP engine..

the additional 75HP over the -114 ( 600HP) make all the difference, especially on the amphibs..

Cessna to the best of my knowledge had installed the stronger motor from 1998 on ex factory, the older ones could be upgraded to the -114A engine with a Wipaire STC, which IS EASA validated..

make sure, if its an older amphib that it has all the Wipaire Firewall enhancements that had been standard ex factory on newer planes from Cessna, but are Wipaire Service Kits for the older birds, especially important if you operate from rough waters..

nice birds, and a dream to fly, very well supported by Cessna, Wipaire and Pratt & Whittney

Now you tell us how you are going. to ferry one on straight floats, got to land on water every time. Your engineer will need a pair of waders to do the inspections. Why not buy the more popular amphib as you can land on land and on water. Very few on straight floats.

yeah, me had

overread the "straight floats" part..

no, straight floats make no sense nowadays..

only for veery specialised "water only" extremely payload sensitive "Alaska Ops"..or some "water only" island ops

other than that go with amphibs, they are the standard..

Having flown both the 600Hp & the 675HP models, (both on Wipline amphib floats) definately be looking for the 675HP model. It does make a huge difference. If you can find one with single point refuelling, that makes life a lot easier too, nothing like climbing up on top of a wing when it's wet trying to haul a can of Jet fuel or a fuelling hose (wear your swimmers because that's where you are likely to end up).

I think you will be hard pressed to find one on straight floats, amphib floats are far more popular (and practical).
