Picking Up a New Emb Legacy from the factory to fly in India
If anyone has ever picked up a new Emb from the factory and knows the process let me know how it works. I'm going to pick one up for a broker and he doesn't seem to know much about the process. The aircraft is going to be registered in India and after pick up first flown to Chicago, then India to be flown part 91. Is it legal to fly an Indian registered aircraft with an FAA license for a private owner, or where could I find out it that information, it would help me out greatly. I'm just now looking into the DGCA and they don't seem too keen on expats, but this isn't for commercial flying.

Is it legal to fly an Indian registered aircraft with an FAA license for a private owner, If the owner is going to operate Part 91, the first question is what is the Indian version of 91, or does it even exist? 2nd question, why register it in India? im trying my hardest to look into this stuff, but its not going very well. Thanks for the first part, and is it safe to assume that a temporary airman certificate is more than just getting a verifying copy of your licenses from the FAA, but you will have to go through the entire DGCA process.

If part 91 is a private operation then the owner will find out, that he will have to pay a fair amount of import tax into india , i think around 25% .
Maybe it's easier to fly it on the brasilien register and change register once in india. going to the states, you have the next job, as you need to apply for an TSA waiver which will take 10 working days and you need to apply for a ships number. Next thing, make sure you are part of the acceptance flight and check out if everything works, especially the fuel transfer and HF Bring all the charts and plates you need , Embraer doesn't provide, unless that has changed recently. If you operate in India make sure you have a good handling agent and refuse to do it without, it's a nightmare otherwise. Good luck |
May want to bring an experienced F/A along to work all of the cabin equipment and get properly briefed on it by Embraer.
Remember what opens, closes, slides nicely, locks properly etc on the ground does not necessarily perform the same after a 2-3 hour cold soak. Cheers Kent |

thanks for all this info guys its really helping me out and these are some good questions and concerns i can bring up to the owner/broker. for the inspection flight i know there are 2 emb factory pilots flying, but as one of the other persons aboard will i be allowed to sit in the jumpseat, or manipulate the controls once at cruise. the plan which was told to me is that it will stay pp registraion, and once in india changed over to there registration. all my flight time is in the emb, and learned a lot the day we couldn't get the frozen door open, and then trying to start up the apu (took a long time) thanks for all the info guys and if theres anything you can throw out i'd love to know |

As for the beef place...
Ask them (Embraer) to take you to the "Villa D'aldeia" ! check Bem Vindo VILLA D'ALDEIA GRILL Best beef, I ever had in my entire life. There is also a famous fish place I remember, forgot the name though.... Embraer has an acceptance flight protocol which normally is used for customer acceptance flights. We used to perform some parts of this protocol with one of our own pilots in a mixed company/Embraer testpilot setup. Try to get it beforehand ! Thorough preparation by yourself as well as good communication is important. Excellent chaps at Embraer flight ops ! Enjoy |
