Eclipse IFR?

I was advised that the Eclipse was not (yet) approved for flight under IFR. A non pilot friend of mine was passenger in one recently flown in cloud and at FL300. I don't know any specific model details.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The EA50 (Eclipse 500) is certified for IFR & RVSM operations. Numerous numbers of them operational in Europe.

Bit of info on their range etc here

Thanks DC9. My advice was poor.

As far as I know the airplane is IFR approved.

BUT its GPS is not: this means that you can not use GPS for navigation nor for GPS approaches under IFR.

But if you use regular (land based) nav aids you are legal.

Edit: You have to fly airways under IFR. Directs are not approved.

Numerous numbers of them operational in Europe.
May I amend this to "Numerous of them parked or flying privately in Europe awaiting certification for commercial IFR ops from a bankrupt manufacturer." In Europe still not IFR certified for commercial ops and not looking likely to be so in the near future.. :ooh:

Best source for baised but up to date information is on eclipsecriticng blog spot (just search in google for eclipse critic NG and you should find it) So far everything that happened (or should I say did not happen) with this overhyped aircraft had been predicted on this site...
