Stripes!
Je suis le ignoramus: Just easing myself into the corporate jet world: (Type rating starts tomorrow!!) What are the significances of two stripes and three stripes and how strictly are they applied? My missus (bless 'er) bought me some "3's" for birthday, but not sure I'm eligible to wear these at only 400ish hours... Or is it operator-dependant? :O

Operator and country (brits love to wear all of 'em while riding the spam can) dependant.
In the airline world, most "junior" F/O will have to content with 2 noodles until promoted "senior", thereby getting a 3rd one. But as the whole thing is more directed by customs rather than by law, you may as well end up starting with the coveted 3! Good luck with your TR :ok: |
I was told this,
1 stripe = can read 2 stripe = can write 3 stripe = can do numbers 4 stripe, knows someone who can read, write and do numbers. :E |
What! You mean it's NOT related to the number of wedding rings one has posessed?!?

...................Helmet on INCOMING!! |
My current company uses this.....
2 stripes - Junior F/O, less than 1000hrs TT 3 stripes - Senior F/O, more than 1000hrs TT 4 stripes - Captain - obviously My previous company used only 2 or 4 stripes until relatively recently. It has now introduced 3 stripes for those F/O's recommended as Senior due to time served and good simulator assessments. So there is no hard and fast rule other than 4 is for Captains only. |
You should read this Pprune thread - all you need to know ;)

Here's your incoming: je suis un ignare, using an indefinite article as in English. However, if the original poster was referring to himself as the one and only ingoramus, the definite article would be contracted thus: l'ignare. Sorry for prolonging diversion on this thread, back to topic..... JB |
Congratulation on the job TSandPSintheGREEN.
As said, it it completely operator dependent and your new employer will most likely give them to you. So you can hang on to you stripes for personal use....with the missus I guess;) (BTW, don't wear them in the sim, T-shirt and jeans is more the order of the GA day.) Enjoy, Chips |
I thought you got one stripe for each 100 pax you killed.
