Flight Numbers?

Hi guys,

I know some private business jets use the registration of the aircraft as their callsign/flight number, but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how flight numbers are decided when a company uses it's own callsign? Are they decided at random, like in the airline industry?

Also, say a passenger flies to LHR-NCE once every week, is the flight operated by the same flight number (eg XX123) or is it different every time?

Many thanks.

Depends on the operator. Some have specific callsigns for the aircraft, some for the Captains but most of us use some internal reference like a job number (or a part of a job number) - makes it easier for accounts to allocate Eurocontrol charges to the correct aircraft at the end of the month!

Several use the day of the month then a trip number, such as 'XXX021' for first flight on the 2nd or 'XXX163' for third trip on 16th

Many thanks for your replies.

25check,

I take it the trip number is the number of flights flown for that month, rather than just a single day?

Thanks.

no, its on a daily basis, so on 3rd they may do 3 flights xxx031/2/3 then on 4th they start again, ie xxx041/2/3

Gotcha! :ok:

Thanks once again.

I know an operator who uses that days page serial number in the tech log.

Oh dear me no, that would involve having to walk out into the hangar to find out the tech log number... how very 1970's...

;)

in my company the number depend of witch flight off the years is it. example 114th flight in the year will have the call sign XXX114.
