GLOBAL EXPRESS vs GLF5/G550
 

Who's the "Rolls Royce" of the sky? GLEX or GV/G550?
I'm a Gulfstream man myself. Better range, faster, more reliable....but in the end its the passengers that decide, not the pilot, and they often pick the GLEX due to its larger cabin. Larger cabins might be nice, but they dont help much if your aircraft has a technical!!

What do you guys think?

Went thru the whole process with my Client and it came down to cabin space, cabin space and cabin space! When we got to the viewing stage, Gulfstream didn't even have the brochures delivered on time! :uhoh:

It came down to Dassault - for a 900EX - and Bombardier for the XRS. The latter won hands down.

Do yourself a favour tell the Boss its his decision! Either Bombardier for the Client, Dassault for a pilot, or Gulfstream for the engineer!

Myself, well I'd wait for the 7X!;)

This debate will go on forever and will become increasingly more difficult to win as aircraft from all manufacturers strive to be the best. I'm flying the GEX, a great airplane and although it may not have the range that the G550 has, it certainly can come out of shorter fields and then go further than the GA product. It does say something about a new design rather than a 'grandfathered' one from Gulfstream. Maybe GAs next jet should have slats???
I would love to fly the 7X, it sure sounds nice and by the way, I'd certainly love to fly the G550, there's no argument, it is a lovely aircraft.

True enough though, it is the final decision of the guy with the checkbook and yes, cabin size is a big factor...just ask Boeing.

It is a discussion I have had a lot of times. They both are just so close.

Agree with the general sentiment and feel that the 7X will be great.. so not A or B but C for me :D

G5 has London - Tokyo range; don't think GLEX can do that.

What do you think Tony should choose?

Chevron, I think the Great Circle distance, EGLL - RJTT is around 5200nm, that would be well within the range of the GEX however, I've never flown the route so I couldn't say for sure what the airway total distance would be. My longest trip in a heavy BOW GEX, was 4950nm westbound and I landed with 3200lbs.
I would guess that London Tokyo would be possible...

I do know of GEX crews that routinely fly London-Singapore or London - Hong Kong, whatever that distance is.

Latte time

Assuming Singapore is further than Bangkok (great circle route) then GLEX should have about the same range capability, just never had one doing these sort of trips from my airport, only G5's

The folks in back all seem to like the Global until it breaks. After they get treated to Bombardier's sterling customer service, they can't get rid of it fast enough and get a Gulfstream. And with what Gulfstream budgets for customer support, Bombardier has a long, long way to go to even get within sight of Gulfstream.

Sounds familiar, you hit the nail on the head. Thats exactly why we lost our Global.

My friends of LVMH are flying LBG to tokyo direct with a GLEX....

Probably, but not the other way around from Tokyo to Paris!

F-GVML, at the beginning of its operation, flew Seoul - Le Bourget, and they had about one hour of extra flight time remaining after landing.
