LIML accident or incident?
Anyone know what's going on at Milan Linate? I was boarding a Lufthansa flight, commuting to work, and the airport was suddenly "closed for an an accident." I called the ATIS landline and got the same info. Can't find anything else. 1830Z on January 5, 2017.

Just looking at Italian news. It seems a small aircraft - possibly a Cessna 'according to the first indications' - has ended up outside the runway when landing without extending its landing gear. The emergency services are there, but they can't confirm whether there are casualties. The airport is closed.

First italian news report of a Piper (possibily Malibu) going off the RWY after landing without / or with broken landing gear. No fatalities (that's the only sure thing right now - luckily). Most flight diverted to LIMC
What's the advantage for a GA aircraft to want the longest runway possible? Is there a critical distance involved for a non jet GA?
I guess there is no harm in asking the tower if that was the case and they were cleared to land on that runway.

Regardless...
Regardless of which runway was used, would the airport not be closed until the fire crews had assessed where/if their services were required and officially stood down. Unless of course, they had sufficient crews to cover two emergencies at the same time.

Anyway, my post was mainly to emphasise the silliness of criticising this chap's actions before (any) facts were available.

Often the short runway is closed and used for parking.
And GA is air traffic just as airliners are, you arenīt a tad more entitled to "your" runway than anybody else is.
