Falcon CPDLC

I like to open this open forum to share information to all Falcon EASY Pilots regarding CPDLC Operations and Trainings on Falcon 900 EASY, Falcon 2000 EASy and Falcon 7x.

I just did my first two North Atlantic crossings last week with a 7x using CPDLC. We could not get the clearance on ground with CMF/ATS in Shannon (did fuel stop). Received the NAT clearance with Shannon oceanic as usual by voice 45min before Take off. ATC advised us to logon CPDLC after Take off, climbing through FL160 not before. CPLDC worked fine within FIR. We crossed via Shanwick FIR - Santa Maria - New York FIR. But Automatic switch over from Shanwick to Santa Maria FIR did not work. We had to log on manually using the FIR AFN Address. BUT, the FIR Identifier on the OFP or Plotting chart was not correct. Advice: use the GOLD Manual and North Atlantic orientation Charts to get the correct AFN Address. E.g. New York FIR is KZNY but for CPDLC it is KZWY. New York gave us early the VHF Frequency to contact and CPDLC disconnected outomatically when entering New York Airspace.

Had a similar problem with wrong FIR identifier in the Gander area, had to override the automatic changeover by the FMS. That was in a G550, but the database mistake was probably the same...

Good advice using the GOLD and Jepp enroute charts to crosscheck the CPDLC..

On the return trip out of TEB the route was straight into New York Oceanic FIR. We couldn't get the clearance via datalink. We received total two new re-clearances on ground with Teterboro Clearance. We logged on with FANS and CPDLC with NEW YORK CTA KZWY already on Ground before Take off. The transition was straight and easy into New York Oceanic airspace. We flew the OTS. The route was quite south via New York - Gander - Shanwick. CPDLC worked fine. Also the transition to next FIR was automatically. The mandatory Selcal Check on HF was straight forward. We had to cross a frontal system with high tops. Having CPDLC made deviations also easy. Asked for higher Altitude and 30NM left of Track to deviate via CPDLC. Got straight the clearance . Imagine asking deviations via HF would have been a nightmare.

according to Dassault ATN-B1 CPDLC should work over UK and Karlsruhe, it cannot be used over Maastricht and Switzerland.

Pending formal EC communication expected by November 2014

We use CPDLC in our G450 over Maastricht all the time.. No issues! Never had any issues on crossing in either direction (30+ crossings in 2 years with it)

Did a crossing with 7X thru Gander, Shanwick, and then over to Iceland/Reykjavik.
Everything worked well including the automatic transfers.
Iceland Radio however requested us to contact Reykjavik control right away with radio.
Requested higher with CPDLC and that also worked really nicely.
However, as everyone knows, the interface itself is not ideal for Easy.

Did the training as a part of the package with CAE BH.
Well, it covered the basics, but overall, pretty useless.
