Yes, it's true about occuring in UK, and the pilot at the time is a friend of mine. It was to an airfield rather than an airport.

I believe that the lady who jumped in Britain was a reasonably wealthy lady with terminal cancer, if my memory serves me correctly.

All this talk of jumping and leaping is quite bizarre. If you are holding on to the door handle when the door opens you are going to be thrown out.

There is a safety bellows system in the door latch mechanism but at max diff about 50 pounds of force will override it.

This reminds me of the woman that jumped out of a corporate Dash 8, I believe it was, in the LA area in California. You have to wonder what was going on in their minds. Sad story.

It was Sacramento, Con. She landed in a community garden near SAC (the airport not the VOR) as I recall. Seems to me it was an Intel or HP corporate aircraft on its way to SJC, but I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment...

I don't see any reason to doubt the door was locked. The passenger tried several times to open the door and failed. Unlocked doors tend to open themselves without any help.

The aircraft was depressurized in an effort to get the passenger under control.

An emergency was declared and the cabin was depressurized in a effort to get the male passenger under control. The disruptive passenger subsequently opened the main cabin door and exited the aircraft. The incident occurred approximately 114 NM southwest of Cambridge Bay, at FL 230. The aircraft continued to Cambridge Bay with the cabin door open, and landed without further incident. The male passenger is presumed deceased; the flight crew and the remaining passenger were uninjured. The Cambridge Bay detachment of the RCMP is investigating the occurrence.
