UK Army Air Corps Historic Flight
Have noticed that MOD have apparently placed the airworthy aircraft (Beaver, AOP 9, Alouette & Sioux, but no Scout) on the UK civil register. Anyone know why?
Probably because the UK Military Airworthiness Authority were placing even more restrictions on their operation than the Campaign Against Aviation do.
Not sure about this but could it be that all those mentioned, except the Scout, were already on the civil register? To put a 'new' aircraft onto the civil register for the first time is a time and money consuming exercise of considerable proportions!
There are a number of privately owned Scouts on the UK register already, plus Saunders Roe had several early examples registered back in the late 1950s.
I seem to remember hearing a (slightly) facetious claim that it would run on any fuel except coal and wood! |
The AAC HF Scout is on the civil register as G-CIBW.
Whats next, BBMF & RNHF on the civil register?
The RNHF Sea Fury T.20 is G-RNHF!
Three of the BBMF aircraft have been registered in the past; Spitfire V AB910 was G-AISU with Allen Wheeler Spitfire II P7350 was G-AWIJ with Spitfire Productions for the BoB film Hurricane PZ865 was G-AMAU with Hawker. :) |
