Mid 60s AA aircraft with rear 1st class lounge?
Folks, I am trying to clear up a fading memory I have of flying in an American Airlines plane as a 6 yr old in 1965, and wonder if I am confusing fact with fiction. Can anyone tell me if American flew an aircraft which was configured with a rear first class lounge, and if so what was this aircraft? I have this recollection of sitting on a bench type sofa around a table, and being able to lean over and watch the countryside zip by behind us out of a rear facing window. I am not certain that it was American Airlines, but the flight was from NY (La Guardia, I believe) to Memphis, Tn in the summer of 65, and it was not a jet. Many thanks to anyone who can i.d. the aircraft.

American Airlines operated Lockeed Electras with a U-shaped lounge in the aft cabin.

The aft cabin U-shaped lounge is shown in this diagram of a Braniff L-188 Electra.

Many thanks, evansb. You hit it first time. I think I carried a postcard of that aircraft for years in a junior Panam bag (obtained on the same tour of the US), but sadly it was lost some time ago with most other mementos of my childhood. At least I haven't lost the memory of it. It was great fun for a six yr old.
