Junkers Ju 52 to be built new

Junkers Flugzeugwerke will start to build the legendary Ju 52 in a V12-engine "new generation" version. Announced at the Aero air show at Friedrichshafen. A bit Basler-style.

They build new and updated F 13 and A 20 already.

Remarkable! Wonder what the market will be like...

It might depend on people accepting the different shape. It's a bit too modernist for my taste. Like actually wanting to look modern. Like this strange An-2 modern redesign.
But it's a classic. At least those cabin and cockpit windows could be made to look more original.
Hopefully the Swiss and Lufthansa will get some.

Late April fool?

V-12s in a Ju52 ? Sacrilege !!!

BEagle 26th Apr 2022 22:03

That looks hideous!

I was privileged to have a look around D-AQUI, the Lufthansa Stiftung Ju52/3M at Hamburg airport before it was sadly grounded and what struck me most was how small the cabin was. Only 16 passenger seats!

I also had a look at D-EBEI, their delightful Me-108 at the same time. Lovely little thing!!

Appears that the RED A03 is an EASA type-approved V12 diesel with application on, for example, the Yak-52. I guess this is what happens if you let a bastardised-Yak spend the night with your Tante Ju.

The question remains; in God's name why?

Looks more like a PC12 with two extra engines.

Why? Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG company is owned and funded by a very wealthy entrepreneur and Junkers enthusiast, Mr. Morszeck, heir of the Rimowa luggage manufacturers family.
The good thing is he does quality work whatever he does.

PS: Thanks Dave.:ok:

My sons are heirs to a luggage owners' family - I wouldn't let them build an aircraft. :O

Wish them more success than with the Starliner project.

Years ago there appeared a re-manufactured and updated Ford TriMotor , then there was the updated Dornier 24 .... I also remember a scheme to build a new H.P. 42 !

treadigraph 27th Apr 2022 11:38

TriMotor update was the Bushmaster 2000 - saw one arrive on Catalina Island which I believe later crashed spectacularly leaving several people badly injured.

I do recall the plan to build a replica HP42, wasn't Mike Russell at Duxford one of the principals?

How about new-build DC-3s for the nostalgia market at air shows &c. Not to mention freighting in non-sophisticated environments. Powered by new-build radials? Plus a few e-DC-3s for aviation enthusiasts, with sound systems to mimic the sound of radials. Payload would be limited of course. Just for fun! Perhaps Elon Musk could fund the project with a few of his spare dollars.

Ray Hilborne ,(he of the S5 replica) was very keen, planning on using the original certification. We tried to get some BA interest..........

Look at Rimowa luggage. I think you can make any Junkers airplane just by putting together parts from that.

I thought the Handley Page Hampden was The Flying Suitcase...
