D B Cooper Fifty Years On
Fifty years ago today Dan Cooper skydived into folklore history along with $200,000 dollars that has never been accounted for.
Long live the DBCooper vane! |

Some of it was accounted for. $5,880 was found in 1980.

With your pleasant smile And your dropout style, D.B. Cooper, where did you go? |

How come the DC-9 doesn't have one?

A few months ago I saw an announcement on Nat. Geographic or the like that there would be a new dig in the riverbed. I haven’t seen the documentary yet.
I think it is on one of the pay channels of NG. edit: probably seen on Simple Flying |
Hi Stationair8
You're right about the "folklore" bit as you have continued the fake news about this case again. The "Dan Cooper" who boarded the aircraft is not the same person that was mis-reported as a suspect at the time named "D B Cooper" The FBI had no information as to whether "Dan Cooper" was a real name or alias so simply trawled for anyone with that surname and came up with a suspect (with previous history) called Mr D B Cooper. He was in fact quickly eliminated but the poor reporting conflated the two identities which probly helped the real criminal hide his true name... |

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the DC-9 series aircraft did in fact have a similar device to prevent opening the aft door in flight.

What about this?

A jump plane with seats???!!?!???!???!!
We barely had a seat for the pilot! |
|
Now solved - according to Dan Gryder...........
He was Richard Floyd McCoy Jr who actually hijacked another aircraft shortly afterwards.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_McCoy_Jr. I wouldn't bother with the first half of the video but skip forward to the interviews with the remaining family. I'm happy that this is now "case closed" |
That video, the 2nd half recommended to watch, seemed very convincing in an authentic way by the siblings of McCoy. They didn't seem particularly like they were chasing notoriety or attention and a lot of the anecdotes seemed to fit, but as always who knows ? There have been too many 'death bed confessions' proclaiming to be DB Cooper, so everything with a pinch of salt.
A question to our American contributors, at the end of the film, the daughter was visiting her father's grave and on the inscription was his Social Security Number! Of the US graveyards I've visited I've never seen that before, Military service numvers, but SSN's no. Was this a dig at the system in some way ? |
DB Cooper
Has anyone checked out the video on YouTube (sorry can’t post the link, DB Cooper, Deep family Secrets?
He names the man he says made the jump and it’s pretty convincing. There’s also a book written by two FBI agents that also point to the same guy, the book is DB Cooper, The Real McCoy. Cheers, Dreamland |
