Twin Engine Warbird Near Welshpool

Saw a fairly large twin piston engine aircraft circling north of Welshpool this afternoon. A Blenheim came to mind from the nose section.

Anyone know what was in the area?

Roughly what time?

Fareastdriver 11th Oct 2021 08:55

Roundabout 1944

DaveReidUK 11th Oct 2021 09:02

1944 in the afternoon ?

FED's clock is on war time...

If it was the Blenheim it might not show up on ADSB...

DaveReidUK 11th Oct 2021 11:18

It shows up on Mode S, but not on ADS-B. Having said that, it's a couple of years since I've picked it up hereabouts.

FR24 doesn't seem to have any MLat tracks for it.

To confirm whether it was the Blenheim, I would suggest keeping an eye on the Duxford Diary thread on UKAR. If it did fly during the Sunday, one of the resident snappers may have gotten a shot of it departing and/or arriving.

Nor does Flight Tracker.

Avro Anson from Sleap?

old,not bold 11th Oct 2021 17:37

Seems very likely......

Fareastdriver 11th Oct 2021 17:48

WD413 was delivered on the 28th Feb. 1950 as a C21. Unlikely to ever having been camouflaged and certainty not invasion stripes.

ShyTorque 11th Oct 2021 20:36

Possibly a Vulcanair P68…..they sound like something from a bygone era. Because they really are!

It does indeed. I got the impression of D Day stripes from what I saw. Thanks.

Laughs out loud. :} :ugh:

Unlike the Blenheim, the Anson tracks on FR24.

If you'd given us an approximate time in the first place, it would have saved a lot of it subsequently. :O

Well...I didn't think that there would be that many warbirds around the area in one afternoon.

No, that's probably true.

But my point was that you're much more likely to get an ID for a sighting if you (or the person taking the trouble to help you) can search FR24 around a specified time, rather than hoping that there might have been a PPRuNer who happened to be in the area, whenever, and who spotted a likely candidate.

MightyGem 14th Oct 2021 20:08

Hadn't thought of someone using FR24, more of someone's personal knowledge. Will know better next time. :)

WD413 the Sleap based Anson has indeed been painted in camouflage with DD stripes!

I think the point being made was that the scheme it wears isn't authentic, given that it was built 5 years after the war ended.
