Focke-Wulf Ta 183 Huckebein

I have just read this passage on Wikipedia about the FW Ta 183:

In early 1944, the Reich Air Ministry (RLM, for Reichsluftfahrtministerium) became aware of Allied jet developments, and were particularly concerned that they might have to face the Gloster Meteor over the continent. In response, they instituted the Emergency Fighter Programwhich took effect on July 3, 1944, ending production of most bomber and multi-role aircraft in favour of fighters, especially jet fighters.

How would the RLM have found out about the Meteor development?

I would be astonished if they wouldn't have known about it as the jet project started already in the thirties when there was "peace in our life time". I am not assured that the emergency fighter program (which the TA183 was part of) would've had any influence of the Meteor. Germans already had the ME262 and most sources state that the program was direct result of the allied bombers causing havoc.

That Wikipedia article is flagged as needing 'additional citations for verification' and they're not wrong. Specifically, that claim about knowledge of the Meteor programme is completely unsourced.
The same article says that development of what became the Ta 183 began in 1942, when as far as I can see Meteor development was at the stage of working out number of engines: presumable exactly the same sort of calculations as were going on in Germany and ended up with the Me 262.

My limited knowledge says the Huckebein - one of many proposals - was designed specifically to hit allied bombers and in particular the B-29 should it enter the European threatre. Interesting there's no mention of the Meteor in the associated wiki article - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figh...rgency_Program

Reading the "Flight" magazines published during the war years I was amazed at some of the information published, thinking I would have kept that under wraps. Pity the "Flight" archive is no longer available to search to see when Meteor first gets a mention.
