BBC John Noakes Nimrod Trip?
I saw a tribute to Blue Peter John Noakes on you tube in which a clip showed John on a Nimrod Sortie. In what year was this and what squadron if known please?

I think it was one of the squadrons from Kinloss in an SAR role, it certainly wasn't 51 from Wyton, not even for a Blue Peter badge ;-) Possibly 1977.
The feats Noakes got up to for that programme were incredible, especially by today's standards, especially the freefall he did with the RAF flying Falcons display team. |
According to Morayvia's Dave Brown
Dave is another ex-RAF volunteer at Morayvia, having spent most of his career involved in Maritime Patrol Aviation. Dave too was once on TV, gaining a Blue Peter Badge for being part of a Nimrod crew which took John Noakes flying on a Fishery Protection sortie as far back as 1978. https://i.imgur.com/NkWRJ3b.jpg |
I remember him ripping the seat of his trousers off demonstrating how to get in to Culley's Camel at Yeovilton
It wasn't transmitted.. |
Nothing like a Nimrod but he also did a feature on the Campbell Cricket autogyro while with Blue Peter and flew a student gyroglider with an instructor.
|
John Noakes also flew with the Reds when they had Gnats

That's a hell of a barf bag John's carrying...
Recall Val Singleton did a "pinch hitter" (thanks to someone on here who taught me that term!) flying course with OATS for Blue Peter back in about 1972. |

I was one of the navs on that trip - it was 201 Sqn. One of the camera crew turned a most peculiar colour when I asked him if he wanted a curry for lunch. If it was 1978 it was either 14 Jul with Phil Zarraga, or 19 Sep, 24 Oct, 1 Nov with Chris Fitzpatrick.

On the 25/26 April 1978 BBC TV presenter John Noakes and the ‘Blue Peter’ team visited 120 Sqn and recorded a programme about life on the squadron and had a flight in a Nimrod.
