Virtual Airshow 2020
Seeing as airshows are likely to be a non-event this year (though I believe Shuttleworth may have a plan!), I thought perhaps we could put together a display of our favourite acts via the medium of YouTube. It must a display or flypast, but from any year and any place; what would you like to see?
We'll assume perfect weather, a decent bar and buffet, a benign Display Director and a compliant Authority! To kick off, Britain's oldest airworthy aeroplane: |
Balanced with Australia's latest
Very disappointed that Pitch Black 2020 had to be cancelled. I have an 18 month old grandson in need of indoctrination.:E |

Herewith the RAF Phantom at Biggin Hill, probably 1982 or 83, plus a bonus of three vintage light aircraft and an interview - all with the measured tones of Raymond Baxter providing the commentary...

Raymond Baxter; THE voice of British Aviation.
The Dan Snows of this world could learn a great deal from watching him. |
Ah Raymond Baxter

The Dan Snows of this world could learn a great deal from watching him. I was always amused by the story of him buying a boat. Ah it must have been a converted MTB or Fairey Huntsman i thought, but no it was a caravan in a sort of pontoon with an outboard !!! Pobjoy did a comentary once at a formula one air race at Gaydon. It was very short notice (10 mins) and with no notes so, when one of the Cassuts fell behind after a couple of laps i sugested to the crowd that the throttle had caught in his trousers. When one of the machines 'wobbled ' a bit during a pylon turn i said his glasses had fallen off,but it was quite normal. Not quite RB . As it happens it was very near the the truth as the Cassutt cockpit was very very tight and no place for slack clothing. |
Speaking of commentary, where would one be without a mellifluous voice informing, amusing and captivating the spectators with knowledge and anecdote in roughly equal measure. And as an BAeA judge John Blake would surely welcome the appearance of Svetlana Kapanina, providing the first unlimited aerobatic performance of the afternoon - by special request!
