I am sure one of the competitors in the "What ?" threads will be able to identify this one. All my usual sources have failed.

Tachikawa KKY-1.
Looks like a DH80b Hornet Moth. Remember they used everything from the DC3 early on.

Certainly has the look of a Gipsy Major cowling.
Look at the wings again - it's a sesquiplane and in no way a Hornet Moth.

Hello Canada.
Hello UK. :)
As ever this forum does not disappoint. Searching for the Tachikawa KKY-1 shows it to have been Cirrus Hermes powered and from 1933, having been inspired by licence built Fox Moths. Thanks all.
Amazing. I had never noticed that the Cirrus rotates the other way from a Gipsy!

Another one......
As my last mystery was quickly solved, hopefully it will be the same with this other Japanese 1930 s design...........

Reminds me a bit of something... Italian or Russian I think...
The writing says it's a Potez 41.

Original of the photo (from l'Aérophile) before the fake colour was added:

Thanks to both. So no connection with Japan other than that the publisher thought it interesting .

Everybody standing around with their hands in their pockets, 'nothing to do with me, mate.'
