DC9 and descendants - pilot type rating(s)

MODS, please move this elsewhere on the site if this isn't the right part.

Does anyone know if there was more than one type rating for the DC9 family ? Although externally much the same, fuselage lengths notwithstanding, the original DC9 series 10 must have technically been rather different to the Boeing 717. My guess is that the classic DC9 would have been one type, the MD80/90 another and the 717 yet another. But I honestly don't know. Hopefully someone does know. Perhaps individual airlines and authorities have their own policies.

Thankyou.

The EASA list of class and type ratings is here: https://www.easa.europa.eu/sites/def..._List_Acft.pdf
In that list, there is a separate B717 rating, one for the DC-9 10-50 series and one that covers the DC-9 80 series as well as the MD88 and MD99 series. So three different ratings, confirming your suspicion.
