A decade after the War no aircraft in Bomber Command had guns apart from the odd Washington or Lincoln soldiering on.

In the air war over North Vietnam some F4s were fitted a device- Combat Tree - which interrogated a MiG's IFF system allowing their identification at BVR. The RAF used a similar system, known as Perfecto, in WW2 against Luftwaffe Nightfighters.
