Constellation

Flew out of Nantes on Thursday and as we took off caught a glimpse of a Constellation on far side of the airfield. Anyone have any information on the aircraft, is it being restored for example

Thanks

It has been restored and is now conserved.

Google "Nantes Constellation".

Unfortunately Lufthansa have just abandoned plans to restore theirs to flying condition.

Restoring to flying condition is a much bigger job than preservation though.

Agreed; but Lufthansa have just grounded their JU 52 for the same reasons.

Seems to be a mixture of money and risk exposure causing the tide to go out in the nostalgia flights world. That JU-52 crash last year in Switzerland changed the game, perhaps for good. At least there are various Connies around the world preserved for those that wish to see them.

When I was about 7 or 8 Dad had to go to a fortnightly sales meeting at his firm's factory on the Poyle Trading Estate at Colnbrook. He went to the meeting and I stood outside for a couple of hours right under the flight path of the (usually) landing piston engined airliners. I can still feel the rumble through you one got from 4 large radial engines
