Much fun and roguery went on in the hangar. My late-uncle was an inspector, and my dad ran the MT section, so know lots of them. Management tended to tolerate some of the jinks, knowing that they would get stuck in when required, and produce excellent work. There are probably many stories. One I recall is of the tanks of a stored DC3 mysteriously found to be drained of Avgas. Meanwhile, some engineer's cars suddenly attained new levels of performance... |
There was a small team of Line Engineers at Leeds Bradford from 1998 until BMI (as it was) closed their LBA base. A few are still at LBA in alternative employment.

"Old Timers"... be kind to the lads! Sadly, their numbers are declining.

Avgas might give a performance increase for while however we ran squadron minis on it in Ireland 1975.
The valve springs collapsed on regular basis!!! |
Did you mean the BRMs, (Boeing Repair Men), LHR based but many sourced from Luton, managed to keep the 707s flying for all the operations worldwide, and believe me they have many a story to tell.
