Great Interview of WWII Normandy Veteran and his C-47

This veteran paratrooper who jumped into Normandy on D-Day was recently taken for a ride in the same exact C-47 that he jumped out of over Normandy. The passenger next to him is a great-great-grand-daughter.

I am currently reading a book that is a collection of brief memories collected from veterans of D-Day, including British, Canadian, US and German forces. I felt sorry for the US paras who very often were dropped miles from their intended target with appalling consequences. One UK para was dropped by a US driven C47 and says he knew something was wrong when he stepped into the door. He reported the normal cruise was around 135mph and this was dropped to about 90mph for the drop. Except this pilot forgot to reduce the speed, resulting in a lot of fuselage slapping!

There were similar mishaps on the jumps into Sicily (Operation Husky), except some were dropped into the sea.
