Air UK, Norwich and Bergerac's Car

I don't think you could get away with this now but an old Air UK pilot and friend took this picture on the apron at Norwich around 20 years ago. His workhorse and my car. I understand the aircraft is in the museum now.

Now, that is a beautiful, classic example of engineering excellence. The car doesn't look bad, either. G-BHMY. Many happy hours spent in that one.

G-BHMY. I remember it well although it was in the darker blue when I flew it. I am sure someone will correct me but I seem to remember it was the only F27 which did not have nosewheel steering on the copilot's side.

My pals and I, in boyhood, turned up our noses at the Triumph 1800 roadster - it wasn't a "proper" sports car [ like MGs for example ]. Now I just drool over it. How our views change.

So Jay, was yours the reliable Bergerac TR or the unreliable noisy one? ;)

A cadet in our Entry at the Towers had one of those - the car not the F27 - Bas Something?? - I think he was "D" Sqn

Hardly surprising. When the TR roadster was replaced by the TR2 it was accompanied by a 30 mph increase in top speed and a more than halving of the 0-60 time.

I had to chose between a ZA MG Magnette and a Triumph Roadster in the '60s.
Chose the former, but always wondered if the latter would have been more fun!
What classics both were.

I am currently restoring a ZB Varitone, 1958.
