EAL Flt 980 Black Box Delivered to NTSB After 32 Years.

According to this ABC News report, one of the black boxes (report does not indicate CVR or FDR) from Eastern Airlines Flight 980 has been found and delivered to the NTSB after a prolonged negotiation with the Bolivian government. The 727 crashed into Mount Illimani in Bolivia at an altitude of 19,600 feet on January 1st, 1985. No cause was ever determined.

Photos:-My buddy Dan and I set out to do something impactful and have a bit of an adventure by recovering the black box from a 1985 plane crash. Got more than we bargained for, but thanks to imgur....WE DID IT! - Album on Imgur

There was a rather lengthy article, I think in Outdoor Magazine, about this adventure to Bolivia. And what the two Americans found. It seem that the wreckage has been sliding down a glacier and a good portion of the wreckage has fallen over a cliff down to 17,000 thousand feet or so. Body parts and all the gruesome finds. A rumor about a large cash, well over several million was also on the flight. And then the political situation between the USA and Bolivia did not help. Lets hope the recorders are able to shed some light on this tragic CFIT.

This is not the first South American glacier in aviation history to give up its secrets many years after a tragic crash:
