RAAF in Korean War

Did 77 Squadrons P51D's claim any air to air kills and how long was it before Meteors arrived in theatre? How many RAF pilots were seconded if any?

1. No.
2. July 1951 (77 Sqn).
3. Perhaps someone else can help you there, but six RAF pilots died while on exchange.

The RAAF in the Korean War

There is an excellent Book by David Wilson, published by Banner Books
titled Lion over Korea. First published 1994.

If you can dig up a copy it will answer all your questions and more.

An RAAF pilot later on a Qantas Captain shot down a Mig with a Meteor.

My father was in 77 squadron during that period. He reckoned he drew the best gig. He flew the squadrons DC3 between Australia and Japan (Iwakuni) for the duration of operations. He always said both the Mustang and the Meteor were so outclassed by the MIG you were always fighting a losing battle.

On a side note of any of you remember Penny Spence on channel 9??? Children's programmes her father was Lou Spence, on of those shot down in 77 squadron.

Somewhere in our family photographs I have several from the period, I'll try and find them
