Late notice.

2 pm Freeview Ch 8 'The Man in the Sky' starring Jack Hawkins as a test pilot struggling to land a stricken Bristol Freighter,

Got it on DVD a couple of years ago, well worth watching, good old British Stiff Upper Lip movie. Filmed at Wolverhampton Airport if memory serves. Also, think from memory a very young Leslie Phillips in the control tower! Ding dong...

It's only available to those in the London area. London Live isn't a UK wide channel.

Raymond Francis it looks like to me, later to star as DS/DCS Lockhart in tv series 'Murder Bag' and its successors.

So eat your hearts out if you can't connect with Crystal Palace transmitters.

Is it worth saving a Bristol Frightener, I ask? (Just jealous because I can't get that channel).

I presume you're far enough west to get Hannington transmissions instead. Funny where I am, I can get some Hannington channels as well as Crystal Palace total 11 digital carrier channels where I think it should only be 6.
Looking on a map, if you draw a line between the two transmitters we're just about on it, so maybe we're getting a 'back beam' from Hannington.

Wasn't Lockhart the snuff-taking Det' Super in 'No hiding place ' ? I loved it when he and his Sgt went chasing the baddies in their Met' Wolseley 4/44 ( or was it 6/90? ) with the bell dingling away - no blues and 2s in those days!

Murder Bag was first, followed by 'Crime Sheet' then 'No Hiding Place', all with Francis and his sidekick Eric Lander.

I think Phillips plays an assistant or something - sure it was that film.

Edit: my mistake, it was "The Sound Barrier" in which Phillips played a controller. Another film to watch on a rainy weekend afternoon!

Neither can I at the moment, despite being just a few miles from Crystal Palace, a lot of my freebies vanished recently - I've just managed to reinstate most of them but London Live remains obstinately absent.

I do a scan of channels every couple of weeks. Only got one HD telly out of three so I only discovered 'Talking Pictures' Ch 81 recently and was surprised to see naked breasts in a film of about 1960 vintage in the early afternoon!! Thinking of getting a Humax 'Freeview Play' receiver to link to one of the other tellys replacing the old 'TopUp TV' box which still works but has some annoying software which I can't get rid of.
As I said, I've got extra channels (about 36 at the last count) from Hannington actually duplications of ones from Crystal Palace except BBC South.
